I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and I have to sleep with a Bi-PAP machine. It doesn’t happen all the time, but on occasion I wake up belching alot with a stomach full of air.
Okay, sorry this is so long, i just had to explain myself :p
For about the past year or so I’ve been noticing that during the day I am always fatigued. Some days when i have nothing at all to do I could sleep about 16 hours. My mom didn’t think anything of it cause I’m 16 and she just thinks i stay out all night lol. I could sleep about 16 or so hours, wake up, be exhausted, and take a nap and sleep some more, then around 8 go back to sleep. I know this isn’t normal, and isn’t physically, nor mentally/emotionally healthy. I am anemic and i figured it was because my lack of iron. And thats also what my doctor told me. but recently i’ve been noticing that in the middle of the night I will get woken up due to bone aches. Not like muscle aches, but bone aches. And there so bad ill have to get up and take something and suffer through until the medicine kicks in. It’s normally like, my elbow, the bones all through my legs, and my pelvic area. I also wake in the middle of the night and catch myself not breathing. But that doesn’t happen as often as the aches. I did some research and found that i have many symptoms of sleep apnea. But i don’t want to be put on a breathing machine, because I don’t want to become dependent. I also don’t like, wanna be married and before bed have to plug up on oxygen or whatever. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any information or suggestions. Or if anyone knew if there were other procedures, not sergical, that I could take into consideration.
Thank you, if you read all of this and are attempting to help me. I appreciate it. :)
no, i am not overweight. i’m about 5′5 and weight 115. i dont have diabetes either.
And i also do not sleep on my back, I can only sleep on my stomach. And i’ve always been that way =/
I also have anxiety problems and I take zoloft. I wonder if that affects my sleeping. My father also has VERY bad sleep apnea. when the doctors watched him sleep he woke up 600 times and almost went into cardiac arrest twice. My symptoms are: staying awake at night, feeling of butterflies in my stomach, extreme sleepiness in the mornings, horrible and weird dreams, headaches often, getting flushed during the day, alot of other stuff! ahhh and i have really bad hearing. HELP!

Whenever my friend sleeps, she snores, but sometimes she inhales so largely that she seems to lose her breath, and it takes a few minutes for her to get it back. Whenever i sleep over, usually if i just poke her in the stomach she can regain her breath pretty quickly. She lives on her own, and she refuses to get tests done. I’m afraid one of these nights, she’s gonna completely lose her breath while sleeping and not regain it back. Is this sleep apnea? What can I do to help her?
No. she’s not overweight, she’s pretty physically fit. Just FYI cuz you asked lol
I used to have really painful and frequent heartburn when I was younger. I went to my doctor and they put a camera down my throat and into my stomach where they found a large amount of redness and bleeding. My doctor diagnosed me with gastritis and put me on medication to treat it. It worked for a while but shortly after I was unable to afford the medication and I didn’t think I needed it anyways as I was experiencing no more symptoms. Recently (last 3 years or so) I have been getting the heartburn more and more and I have noticed other symptoms. When I was in high school I was a great student, 4.0 GPA, sports, extracurricular activities, etc. During my senior year I lost my motivation to do…anything basically. Im 20 now and I’ve since flunked out of 2 colleges due to an inability to concentrate. When I was reading my textbooks I couldn’t remember even the last sentence I had just read. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea to which i contributed the loss of concentration but I remember having all the symptoms of sleep apnea well before my lack of concentration. I was reading up on anemia and possibly saw a connection with the slow bleeding in my stomach from the gastritis and the recent lack of focus. Does anyone have any other ideas or advice for me?
Unfortunately I’m not on the medication, I haven’t been able to go to the doctor due to the fact that I no longer have insurance because of flunking out of college. So I haven’t been able to afford a visit yet.
yes i do feel weak and tired but i just piled this into the sleep apnea category. So basically what you guys are saying is I need to go to the doctor asap?
I had bloodwork come back normal, but have the following symptoms:
Low heartrate (51 bpm at rest)
Low BP (90/55 – on average)
Extreme sensitivity to cold (I mean EXTREME)
Low Body Temperature (36.1 – 36.5)
Pale, yellow skin
Extreme exhaustion
Hair falling out like crazy
Scant menses (watery and thin, lasting just 2-3 days…)
I’ve had these symptoms over 2 years and I think it’s something thyroid related, but they tested my thyroid/iron and said it was within normal limits…. I even have swollen legs, dry skin, sleep apnea and sore joints….I’ve also begun to gain wait in my stomach, quite quickly (gone from 130 – 140 lbs within a couple months)
Lately, I’ve been noticing my face looks absolutely haggard, with sagging, wrinkly skin that seems to worsen by the day.
Yes, I am 34 and I expect some of these things, but not with such rapidity – and also, I was extremely youthful looking until just one year ago….I feel like I’m falling to pieces physically and no one can tell me why….I also had my hormones test normal.
Anyone have a similar experience with an answer?
Okay, so last year I miscarried at 6 weeks – but I didn’t even find out I was pregnant for sure until I was in the middle of misscarrying (took tests religiously everday for weeks, never registered positive until 1 day into the miscarriage) – if you read back on my questions about a year ago, I had about 10 x-rays to my stomach around implantation, and 3 weeks later began to bleed heavily. I blamed the x-rays all this past year, up until the other day when I got to thinking about SLEEP APNEA and pregnancy…..there is a chance I am pregnant right now, but this had NEVER crossed my mind until recently. It would make sense right?? A woman quits breathing 59 times an hour while she’s sleeping – that’s a part of EVERY minute, every hour….so it’s cutting off oxygen to the placenta…..anyone ever stopped and thought about this before??….Now I’m almost 100 percent sure it caused my miscarriage last year, and am terrified this time around. If I am pregnant I would be 4 1/2 – 5 weeks and I don’t go back for my cpap (breathing maching) fitting until this friday, and then it will take another 10 days after that before I can get my machine from the Medical Supply store…that’s IF sleep apnea caused the miscarriage a year ago….what do you think?
My best friends fiance has been having "episodes" for about the past 6 months. Occassionally after meals, he blacks out and losses motor skills. His eyes will shut or start rolling in the back of his head, and he becomes unresponsive unless splashed with water. They last about 30 seconds to 1 min. Last night he had a severe one that lasted about 30 mins. His posture became slouchy, his eyes started rolling around, he began to slowly spin in circles while standing and his tongue was hanging out of his mouth. At the ER they ran a bunch of bloodwork and gave him a catscan. Everything came back normal so they sent him home and his general physician is saying this is nothing to worry about because he has sleep apnea and "after he eats, blood is rushing to his stomach"? Has anyone experienced anything like this before or heard of any medication that might cause similar symptoms? He is ADHD and also has sleep apnea, he doesn’t drink or do drugs. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Would sleep apnea prevent me from serving in the army? I had sleep tests done in the hospital and they told me I had severe sleep apnea, I stopped breathing 114 times in 110 minutes, but they wouldn’t let me lay anyway except my back, which is why I could only sleep 110 minutes. I sleep fine when I’m on my stomach and don’t have any problems.
Hi there, I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I am a 27 year old male, and obese.
I was wondering if it is possible for CPAP/APAP treatment to be ineffective? My GP and specialist tell me that the machine says everything is working fine and I’m breathing normally, however I still experience most of my apnea symptoms and I notice a huge difference of quality of sleep based on which position I sleep in, just like before I started treatment. Lying on my back is the worst, side is ok, and stomach seems best. Just like the overnight sleep test indicated without the CPAP.
Is it possible that my treatment is not 100% effective, and that I still suffer apnea, despite the computer saying I breath normally? I had 115,7 breathing pauses per hour (extreme). That’s like two per minute. Is it possible my body is "cheating" the machine?
Thanks so much!
My machine is set to "20".I take it off in my sleep an hour or two into sleeping..and dont remember it.Also, does it effect your stomach?
