I applied for an individual health policy and in good faith signed that the information was complete to the best of my knowledge. I also consented to them acquiring any records necessary from my providers. I then had an emergency heart event that resulted in k+ claims. I then cancelled the policy after 5 months since I qualified for insurance through my employer. I just got a letter notifying me that I did not fully disclose all of my health history for the last 10 years on my application, therefore they are rescinding my policy as if it were never in effect. I am now facing k+ in bills and I am going to start the appeal process. How should I respond to the specific items they claim I did not disclose? One of them, for instance, is sleep apnea, which I was never diagnosed with and never received treatment for, but participated in a sleep study to see if I had it.

I have had a sleep study and know that I have sleep apnea, I have tried a c pap machine and didn`t like it . Are there any other solutions to my problem?

I am an enlisted navy personnel, an E-3, AD for 1.5 yr now. I was on LIMDU and medical board for 4 months before I was returned to duty by my military psychiatrist. After RTD, I undergone a sea duty screening and was found to be "assignment limited." In addition to that, my psychiatrist also recommended an administrative discharge. I was diagnosed to have been suffering from Depression, Anxiety, Psyhcoses and Somatization disorder. Right now, my command admin is waiting to receive the PERS 40BB direction about my separation for them to start the discharge process. Before my military psychiatrist made the recommendation, he referred me to a Sleep Study Doctor for my insomnia, and the result came out lately; I have an obstructive sleep apnea. With this result, I don’t know how will my treatment program with the sleep medicine will continue. I still have 3 more sessions with my sleep medicine doctor to complete, but it might not happen anymore as the discharge order may come out anytime in the next few days. Right now I am using a CPAP machine as part of the treatment. Also my military neurologist referred me to a civilian clinic to undergo physical therapy and rehab for my chronic dizziness and unresolve vertigo. I also have on going consults with hearing loss and tinitus with a civilian doctor as per referral by my neurologust. I know all of this will be stopped once the admin discharge comes to the fore. I am thinking of consulting my military PCM about the latest findings and my current treatment programs. I don’t know if he could make it to put me in LIMDU or Medboard due to the new medical findings. And if he would do so, would it prevent the decision of the PERS 40BB to administratively discharged me? Are there other ways to have my treatment and consult completed using tricare insurance after the discharge? I shall greatly appreciate any information you will share. Thank you!

sleep apnea cpap machine with face mask can’t breathe nose has deveated septum
been to ENT dr hence the diagnosis of the septum. sleep study confirmed OSA
(husband) throat closes and deveated septum can’t breathe with or without mask, what to do? sleep dr not helpful.

I am a 30 year old woman – who is 40lbs overweight (according to dr charts) and has moderate asthma – Often when sleeping I wake-up sweating, can feel my heart through my back, get headaches, have to use my inhaler (though it doesn’t always seem to work at night), get restless legs – and feel sluggish sometimes and have headaches for a couple of days that seem untreatable then they disappear, only to reappear later that month. The Dr. ran all kinds of tests, thyroid and such, but to no avail – she never mentioned sleep apnea, but I saw a tv special about it and both my parents have sleep apnea… The thing is that my dr never recommended that I get the sleep study, so do I go and ask for one (maybe she’ll think I’m crazy), or do I just go and get it done – I have a PPO so referrals are not necessary. TIA

PLEASE READ ALL THE DETAILS.

I am working HARD to loose weight so I can sleep better.

I DO NOT want to use a machine.

I allready had (2) sleep studies done and I cannot ABSOLUTLY cannot wear the machine!!! .

I FEEL LIKE I AM SUFFOCATING!!!! EVEN ON THE CORRECT SETTINGS!!!

What is the best position to sleep so my throat does not close on me? Can I sleep sitting up?

I MUST know so I can loose more wieght so the lack of sleep DOES not affect my metabolism. PLEASE I am desperate and want to improve my sleep w/o the machine.

Also I am eating a low fat diet and working out 6 x a week.mostly walking and biking cardio stuff. I try to get 6-8 hrs of sleep a night.

Also would going to bed earlier help me???

Thanks so much
The first sleep study was to figure out what setting to put the machine on and 2nd was to test the machine on me.
Thats why I had 2 done. Thata what they wanted.

I had a sleep study done this weekend. I thought I would sleep well but I didn’t. I think I got about 2 hrs worth of sleep total (no clocks in the room).
Most of the time I laid there pretending to be asleep in hopes of falling asleep.

1. Did I get a sufficient amt of sleep for the test?
2. Can they tell when I was actually asleep v. attempting to go to sleep?
3. How does scoring work?

Any links would be great.
I’m having a hard time finding forums online or even websites that aren’t from sleep study clinics…

Thanks!

After a sleep study monday night ,it was determined that I have obstructive sleep apnea. In a one hour period I had 117 episoids. I was givin a cpap machine today and was wondering for those of you who have had sever apnea who have tried the cpap how much of a difference has it made in how you feel and what were your symptoms prior to the cpap and how are they now. Thanks!!!

Do you have to sleep EVERYNIGHT with a breathing machine? to cure it? (My doctor thinks I have it…and I have a sleep study in a few days) Just wondered how this is cured.

I have Sleep Apnena, my test costed me over 2000 dollars and my pressure is so say 16. I couldn’t fall asleep until 2 hours before the test was over because of all the instruments and cameras. anyway I have been trying for almost a year to get used of it i just cannot. I fall asleep with the ramp and wake up as I soon as my full pressure starts. i cannot afford another sleep study, should I just buy an apap? or what? I don’t know what my options are but i’m just so tired. I sleep all the time

I have many symptoms of sleep apnea but my sleep study shows that it is not an issue. I am tired all the time, no energy or motivation. Depression and anxiety are a major problem. I wake up many times a night feeling like I cannot catch my breath, like my chest is very heavy and not getting enough air/oxygen. What other conditions could cause these symptoms?

It seems like even when I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep, I’m always exhausted the next day. My boyfriend says that when I fall asleep before him, I start to snore a bit, it gets louder and louder and then I wake up gasping for air and sit up really quick and then go back to sleep. He says I do this maybe 4 times within an hour period before he eventually falls asleep (so maybe even more times per hour). I never remember doing this at night. Is this sleep apnea? If so, do most insurances cover the sleep study required to diagnose it and cover the machine to aleviate it? I’m only 23.. why would I have this? Is it genetic? My dad seems to do the same thing.
I’m 5’5 and weigh 135. Not obese.

I am trying to find one who will file a suit against a doctor’s office who let their nurse give information over the phone about:my sleep study which is a "Medical procedure" and it got me fired from my job and cost me my benefits,my treatments for sleep apnea, lupus &fibromyalgia. And I also lost my side jobs and my wedding plans.I am trying to get unemployment until I find another job and I am flat broke until they deny/approve it which I know the employer will fight it! SO now the doc got away w/not only violating the HIPPA ACT but also violated my own written requests on the HIIPPA Act that I added stating that NOBODY except my fiance’ get information re:my info!!So please any help would be great!!The fla bar referal is NO HELP!! Thank you!!
I have read the HIPPA Act all the way thru including all the subsections, however they released information to my boss who is not the insurer and the information he was given was not vital to any claims or for any health related information that was needed for public health reasons,he just invasivly went behind my back to call my doctor to get info to use to fire me because I had filed a sexual harassment claim against a co-worker and was a "risk"to his department. The EEOC is handling that,I have a lawyer who is interested in taking my case he called me today, but until we sign a contract the more info I get the better.Yahoo answers are both w/w and local so If it helps I am going for it..Thannk you!

I have always had trouble sleeping and continually waking up. Even if I sleep a full 8 hours on weekends I still wake up feeling groggy and with a headache. I feel tired and sluggish throughout the day, and usually feel too tired to work out or engage in much physical activity. This has been going on my whole life. I had a sleep study done and I have obstructive sleep apnea, so my body never gets into the very deep stages of restorative sleep. I tried a bipap machine and I can’t sleep with it on. Now I have a tonsillectomy and uvulectomy scheduled in a few months. Assuming that the surgery is successful and I can sleep well and deeply afterwards, how much will it effect my qualirty of life. Will I feel 100% better like a whole new person or will there likely just be moderate improvement? Can someone who has had this surgery let me know?

i know i have severe sleep apnea because i had a mono which gave me a bad case of tonsillitis and i was trying to figure out why i couldn’t sleep for the past month, so can i call my regualr doctor as an emergency to get a cpap machine or do i have to wait until i schedule a sleep study?

A female friend of mine has Sleep Apnea, about two years now. Shes short, 5′ 2" and is 35 lbs overweight. She lost her health insurance due to a work related accident and can no longer work. Right now she has no income. She did the sleep study test when she had insurance and now has the breathing machine, but the mask has been broken for about 16 months and cannot afford a new one. 0. People die from this right? She’s preparing for the worse. She’s only 56.

I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea in October 2003. I have been using a CPAP machine ever since. I started out at an air pressure of 9, but over time ended up at a pressure of 14. Back in January of this year (2007), I began following a steady exercise program and lost fifteen pounds. My doctor had me re-evaluated through another sleep study, and my pressure was reduced to the original pressure of 9. I am sleeping better and feeling better. I view my sleep apnea as being a result of my overweight body, and because I was able to lower my pressure through exercise and weight loss, is it possible to "cure" my sleep apnea if I keep on exercising and losing weight?
I didn’t think about it before, but there a probably people reading my question who don’t know what sleep apnea is, much less what a CPAP is. Here are a couple a links: http://www.sleepdisorderchannel.com/osa/

Yes, I still have my tonsils. The doctor I see for my sleep apnea has not mentioned my tonsils as being part of the problem. He mostly centers on weight loss and is happy whenever I report any amount of loss. He’s very encouraging.

i love to sleep. i always sleep but i used to LOVE it lol. as sad as it may sound. but anyway…for as far back as i remember i would nap during the day. i didn’t HAVE to nap but i would. a 15-30 min nap would do wonders for me. but recently i have been HAVING to sleep and get tired during the day. i have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use a treatment for that which they have tested on me and they say it works.

lately in the past few months ive just been extreamly exhausted. i need to take naps during the day or else i can’t function. i often get very sleepy while driving or sitting for more than 20 min. when i get home from work and school i have to take a nap which now lasts about 2 hours. its annoying that im always so tired because i have things to do and im just to exhausted to do them! i sleep about 6 hours a night and often when i sleep more the symptoms worsen. what can i do? do u think its diabetes??? im worried! :(
i was involved in a sleep study where i was able to get benefit from nose strip kind of things. they hooked me up and they work just like the CPAP maching, where they helped my breathing while asleep.

my boyfriend is having a sleep study done and says it is going to take from friday at 6 to possibly monday morning. is this possible? i thought it was just an over night thing.

How many of you use, or know someone who uses a CPAP machine at night to help them breathe and not to snore?

I am very curious about this, since CPAPs save lives all over the world. I think we all need more education on CPAP machines, and we need to spread the word that if people snore or stop breathing at night, they should have a sleep study done.

Sleep Apnea causes high blood pressure, can cause strokes and heart attacks. It sometimes makes people have heartburn at night, and makes them sleepy during the day. People can become forgetful or irritated. This is just a short list of all the damage that having untreated sleep apnea can cause.

Has anyone ever found out that they had sleep apnea through taking the sleep study? Is a Cpap always the recommended treatment? What other treatments are there? Has anyone found out what their sleeping problem was and felt 100x times better? Has it changed anyone’s life for the better? I have one coming up next Friday. I have been tired for as long as I can remember. I should have done this a long time ago. It has come in between everything in my life…friends, family, work, etc. I hope I can find some answers and start living a normal life and not feel tired every single day of my life!

i think I may have it and had a sleep study done for sleep apnea which is totally different from my symptoms.
to ashbee, since i was 15 after a head trauma accident, i would wake up it didn’t matter what time of the day or night but i would be paralysed but awake eyes still closed and i would be hyperventilating but it would sound like i’m snoring but i wasn’t. I could hear everything around me but couldn’t move. I appreciate all responses.
no they didn’t pick it up on the sleep study so the doctor ruled out sleep apnea which i told him that it was the complete opposite but you know doctors have to rule out everything he even thought it was RLS.

We’ve never had a problem with her weight. She has been to a sleep study and had X-rays on her adnoids. She hes abnormally large tonsils and adnoids.
She is set up for surgery I was just curious as to how common it is?

I am very concerned about my 69 yr old sister who falls asleep anywhere and at any time. This has been going on for years and is a family joke now. She goes to bed at about 8 or 9, sleeps straight through, and gets up at 4. It can be embarassing for her in church, at a party, or at a dinner (even the daily family dinner). She goes to the theatre, but sleeps through most of the performances. If someone is sitting and talking to her, she falls asleep during the conversation. Her doctor tells her that her health is ok. She leads an active life, exercises daily and her weight and diet are fine. Is there a sleep study that can assess her problem or is it a problem?

I’m 18 years old. 5’7 and 140lbs so i’m pretty healthy. My therapist and family doctor want me to have a sleep study. i wake up at least 3 times a night but i’ve always been that way. what could be some reasons to have one. and my dad has sleep apnea is it genetic?
