ive been diagnosed with sleep apnea.. but my doctor said im not severe enough for a respitory machine.. but what does he know.. i dont sleep much, and im allllllways tired! any suggestions ??

to whether or not they could of sleep apnea or is it jsut if you snore its a symptom of it. My husband is an EXTREMELY loud snorerer just wondering if that makes it more of a gauruntee he probably has sleep apnea or does the volumne have no relation to it.

Tough question? anyone experence Sleep apnea and Seizures? I have a friend, who is now on a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine at night. He is over weight – but the real problem is he has had 3 Grand mal seizures in the last 6-months. He has completed a MRI no sign of a tumor or Epilepsy. He is looking for a cause and if the two are related. Any Help out there?

It seems like even when I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep, I’m always exhausted the next day. My boyfriend says that when I fall asleep before him, I start to snore a bit, it gets louder and louder and then I wake up gasping for air and sit up really quick and then go back to sleep. He says I do this maybe 4 times within an hour period before he eventually falls asleep (so maybe even more times per hour). I never remember doing this at night. Is this sleep apnea? If so, do most insurances cover the sleep study required to diagnose it and cover the machine to aleviate it? I’m only 23.. why would I have this? Is it genetic? My dad seems to do the same thing.
I’m 5’5 and weigh 135. Not obese.

Two years ago my brother was admitted to the hospital for an electrolyte imbalance caused by many weeks of vomitting and dehydration. His sodium level on his admittance to the hospital was 96 and within a 36 hour time frame was increased to over 120. As a result of his treatment he now suffers from Central Pontine Mylenosis (CPM). He has struggled to learn to walk and talk again. He experiences issues with tremors that prevent him from writing, typing driving and feeding himself. He recently was also diagnosed with central sleep apnea as a direct result of CPM.

I am trying to find a support group for survivors of CPM, or anyone who has experienced this condition personally or know of someone who has CPM.

I have searched the web for support groups until my eyes are crossed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I found out I have severe sleep apnea..I have been exhausted, headaches, tired all day for 5 years..im 38…my ankles and legs swelled up really bad & I lost leg hair on my left leg..I had blood tests and no other health problems..Doctor says my rapid weight gain is probably from sleep apnea???

I am looking for the nappi code for a cpap machine and mask that is used for the treatment of sleep apnea. the medical aid needs that code. do someone know where I can find this?

Apparently, as a young boy, I was afflicted with ADHD, (an unknown affliction back then), I grew up with very little self esteem (I firmly believed that I was a major cause of the worlds problems). As I grew older I developed depression, high blood pressure, high cholestoral, and a hammer toe. I’ve always had trouble sleeping and became an insomniac with restless leg syndrome, and later discovered that I have a severe case of sleep apnea.
I now take medicines for high blood pressure, cholesteral, and anti-depressants. I take sleeping pills and meds for RLS at night and I have to sleep with one of those sleep apnea machines.
With all that, I still get quite depressed, have a miserable time getting to sleep at night, with my legs continuously on the move, wake up tired with a low level of energy, somedays I don’t care if I do anything.
Do you suppose that a GOOD STIFF, STRONG, STRAIGHT SHOT OF WHISKEY WOULD HELP?
Thank you.
I said apparently I had ADHD. I don’t think any kid ‘knows’ that he has the problem. The symptoms as they are described today, fill the description of my childhood experiences quite well. Somebody already mentioned that in those days, that kind of behavior was handled with a lot of punishing, scolding and belittling by the teachers and others who had authority over a kids life. Believe me, that kind of crap comes back to haunt you.

I use a machine for my sleep apnea but it doesn’t have an alarm for when there’s a blackout.

I had bloodwork come back normal, but have the following symptoms:

Low heartrate (51 bpm at rest)
Low BP (90/55 – on average)
Extreme sensitivity to cold (I mean EXTREME)
Low Body Temperature (36.1 – 36.5)
Pale, yellow skin
Extreme exhaustion
Hair falling out like crazy
Scant menses (watery and thin, lasting just 2-3 days…)

I’ve had these symptoms over 2 years and I think it’s something thyroid related, but they tested my thyroid/iron and said it was within normal limits…. I even have swollen legs, dry skin, sleep apnea and sore joints….I’ve also begun to gain wait in my stomach, quite quickly (gone from 130 – 140 lbs within a couple months)

Lately, I’ve been noticing my face looks absolutely haggard, with sagging, wrinkly skin that seems to worsen by the day.

Yes, I am 34 and I expect some of these things, but not with such rapidity – and also, I was extremely youthful looking until just one year ago….I feel like I’m falling to pieces physically and no one can tell me why….I also had my hormones test normal.

Anyone have a similar experience with an answer?

My dad, he’s in his early 50s, and i would say that he probably isn’t the healthiest one in the world. He has these following symtoms:

sour stomach and sour taste on his tongue, which the doctor says it’s acid reflux. They gave him acid reflux med.

Headaches that sometimes makes him throw up, but nothing really comes out, he says he just feels better when he lets the air out. ???
The doctor says it’s migrains.

tired during the day a lot, takes naps. i think it might be sleep apnea but he doesn’t believe me.

And now the doctor says he’s depressed and says his migranes are psychological because he’s to worried about things and he doesn’t have much of a social life.

If you have any idea what this might be, please let me know or if you might know someone who has this symptoms. We have been to so many doctors and they just don’t take us seriously.
He also is pretty lightheaded from all the med. that the doctor prescribes him but the doc says it’s psycological again.

My Doctor and I believe that I may have sleep apnea, which I am scheduled for testing. My appointment isn’t until next month and then it takes three weeks to get the results back. In the meantime, I am totally exhausted and find no motivation to get anything done, which is very difficult because I have three children. What are some things I can do to raise my energy levels so that I can make it through the day and accomplish at least the basic needs of my family?

I wake up and my heart is beating soooo fast, i start sweating and i feel like i’m going to faint. I feel that if the situation got any worse i would literally die, is this sleep apnea or a panic attack? I only awake from sleep with these symptoms, i never have them when i’m awake through out the day.

My son is only 5 months old..he has been hospitalized twice. He has been diagnosed with sleep apnea, sagittal craniosynosis, tremurs, bronculitis, bonchio spasms and the most recent ringworm. He has had one surgery for his sagittal craniosynosis last month. I keep telling myself that it is fixable but I am afraid that one day something will be wrong with him and it wont be fixable. How can I keep my head up when so many things are always wrong with him? He is on breathing treatments every day until April…it is getting hard to keep happy! Do you have any advice for me?
He also has ezcema and we are working really hard to try and clear that up

my husband has a breathing machine for sleep apnea and our dog keeps on chewing on his mask. does any one know why she could be doing this or has had this happened??? this has become a very expensive chew toy for her!!!! HELP!!!!!!
she only chews the head gear that goes around his head and not the part that goes over his nose and mouth
we keep the bedroom door closed when we are not at home and keep the mask in a trash can that we got for keeping it up off the floor
when she did it this time I was in bed next to where she was doing this (my husband had already left for work)

So i recently had a sleep examination at a sleep lab, and it turns out I have sleep apnea (not breathing often while sleeping because of obstruction in airway), but for some reason I just don’t believe I have this sleeping problem because I don’t notice it when I sleep. Anyway, I am only 16, I’m 6′ 2" but over 300 lbs. I’m ALWAYS tired and depressed. I sleep almost every day at school, and I sleep when I come home for usually 4 hours. I was told that because I don’t breathe often in my sleep, I am unconsciously waking up throughout the night, resulting in unrestful sleep.

I slept for a night at the lab, and they tried me on with a CPAP mask. The next morning, they told me I slept well. I still don’t have any more information about how severe the apnea is, or when I’ll be getting my mask.

All I can say is, I’m sick of being obese, I’m sick of being tired, and I’m sick of always being sad and depressed. Do these sound like symptoms of sleep apnea?

i have a neice that has sleep apnea and she doesn’t want to use the cpap machine. what can we do.

My husband has just been diganois with sleep apnea. Now is on permanent Rear D and non deployable. I dont want him to be deployed, but my question is, will his career suffer in any way. He wants to retire from the military, but now we dont know what is going to happen. Help, please!

Actually, I know the standard answers. Get a good routine going, go to bed at same hour and up at same hour every day, good diet, exercise, relaxation, blah blah blah. The trouble is I am now 73 and this has gone on for 11 years since my wife died. I live alone and have none of the good habits because I am always in the same rut and unable to change or, if I do change, it is for about two or three days and then I stay up to 3 AM and sleep to noon. Today, I am so mad. I stayed up ALL night and now it is sunny and 9:30 AM. I am not sleepy after being up for 22 hours, but know I need some sleep. I am afraid this is another lost day. I’ve been to the "sleep specialists" taken numerous sleep tests, got machine for sleep apnea, meds for sleeping and anxiety and depression. So why am I still up all night? Worst of all I don’t do anything productive in those night hours when I am awake. My best working times are, like most people, during the day.

i’ve just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have used the c-pap machine for 2nights. i think it’s going to help, but i have a rash on the bridge of my nose and on my face where the mask sits. anyone else have this problem? any suggestions? i have washed the mask in mild soap and rinsed it well.
my mask fits over my nose only

I am trying to find one who will file a suit against a doctor’s office who let their nurse give information over the phone about:my sleep study which is a "Medical procedure" and it got me fired from my job and cost me my benefits,my treatments for sleep apnea, lupus &fibromyalgia. And I also lost my side jobs and my wedding plans.I am trying to get unemployment until I find another job and I am flat broke until they deny/approve it which I know the employer will fight it! SO now the doc got away w/not only violating the HIPPA ACT but also violated my own written requests on the HIIPPA Act that I added stating that NOBODY except my fiance’ get information re:my info!!So please any help would be great!!The fla bar referal is NO HELP!! Thank you!!
I have read the HIPPA Act all the way thru including all the subsections, however they released information to my boss who is not the insurer and the information he was given was not vital to any claims or for any health related information that was needed for public health reasons,he just invasivly went behind my back to call my doctor to get info to use to fire me because I had filed a sexual harassment claim against a co-worker and was a "risk"to his department. The EEOC is handling that,I have a lawyer who is interested in taking my case he called me today, but until we sign a contract the more info I get the better.Yahoo answers are both w/w and local so If it helps I am going for it..Thannk you!

One of my co-workers heard about a new device on the radio one day, but could not remember what it was called. I have tried the CPAP machine and the oral appliance. I found out I have a deviated septum and plan to get that fixed, but thought I’d check out what is new in treating sleep apnea.

My husband is 27 years old and always tired. Here’s alittle background info:
He has sleep apnea, he is on Paxil 40mg daily for anxiety, he is also on 40mg of Priolsec daily. He uses his sleep apnea machine on and off and if he does use it normally its only for a few hours. My husband works from 5pm-10 pm, then goes to his second job from 10.30pm-3.30am. He gets in bed around 4/4.30am every day. He wakes up at 11.30am.,so about 7 hours of sleep. Heres the problem, he’s constantly tired and falling asleep, especially while watching TV on the couch. This past Sunday he slept through the night (his day off), woke up at 6.30 am with our 10 month old, and went back to bed at 9am until noon, then woke up. Then later that night he went to bed a 6 pm and I woke him up at 10pm to go to his night job. Is his schedule making any sense? :) It drives me CRAZY that he is always so tired. WHat do you think is causing this? He doesnt help around the house very much so thats no causing excessive tiredness… help!:)

I always felt very tired during the day. Imagine you being the doctor and you were ask me question on how I felt I would respond by saying my symptoms. My symptoms are excessive sleepiness during the day, feeling fatigue very weak and drowsy, always feeling the need to sleep, when doing activity immediately felt fatigue, 8 hours of sleep ended up with unrefreshed sleep then immediately felt fatigue, felt slow downed and sluggish, depression and anxiety, have the narcolepsy gene, but don’t have it, was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have insomnia.
In addition if you asked me what is my healthy lifestyle I would respond by, I eat 3 times a day with healthy food of vegetables and fruit, I exercise daily consisting of 30mins to 1 hour, and always think positive. But during that activity I felt very fatigue and can’t complete it. I no longer could complete the activity. I wasn’t like this before I remember the symptoms started in the year 2000 and still progresses. It appears that it has gotten worse. I already saw my doctors and it appears they cannot find the source of the problem, they did mention it could be other problems but unsure what it is. I know live in a stress free environment and I should be doing better, however; I am not and very concern about it. Who knows it can probably make me even more ill and can probably be life threatening. Anyone know what specialist I should be seeing and what tests are needed to be done to fix this problem? You can email me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Also to mention I was givin a sleep apnea machine and been using it since June 2007 until now and haven’t felt any difference, it appears that I still have the sickness, I was also given Provigil and been taking it. I have never missed a dose of it. Although it doesn’t have any effect on me. I notice 1 hour from taking the Provigil I immediately felt very tired and need to sleep followed by fatigue. I felt I should mention this cause it can probably help me find out what it is and to take care of it.
Well I do have sleep apnea, but it only happen during the sleep lab because they make you wear this vest to monitor your breathing and that caused it, but normally I don’t have it I had my family monitor me while I sleep. Like I said even with the machine I never felt relieved I wish I was. I also had insomnia now you can still get apnea though. Once your insomnia goes away you go to sleep and still can get apnea however I was told I was breathing fine without the machine. I am also shocked Provigil didn’t work so this couldn’t be sleep apnea for sure!
I also noticed that when I sleep I do sleep 8 hours uniterrupted if I did get interrupted probably 1 or 2 times, but I do noticed I wake up really early like 5AM and I would get up exercise to get me active, but then again followed by fatigue and need to sleep. I felt so weak that I can’t do normal activites no more and my mom was asking me why I don’t clean the house anymore and I told her I felt weak and sleepy. I know it isn’t laziness cause I never let my tasks fall behind I try to push myself to doing the activities, but it gets harder and harder. I feel like I am completely burnt out….
I feel physically and mentally fatigue and not sure what to do. I did see many doctors to help me resolve this and no results yet. I hope sooner or later I get back up and running again.
Yes I do eat fruits and vegetables lots of it 3 times a day. I even eat whole grain wheat bread and some protein from meat especially from beef I try to avoid turkey and such cause of that special proten tritophan or something that makes you drowsy. I do drink water at least 6 -8 glasses a day and I exercise 30mins to 1 hour a day, and I live in a low stressful environment, but even with that I feel fatigue, because I did come from a high stress environment back then but now I don’t have that stress problem anymore. But still suffer greatly from behing very drowsy and very fatigue. Is this the Epstein Barr Virus or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Maybe major depression or lethargy possibly mononucleius. Well I really don’t know and wish to get to the bottom of this.
Like I said in the previous posts I do use a CPAP Machine! However the cpap machine doesn’t relieve my symptoms nor does it decrease it. I had it since June 2007 until now and still used it, but I still feel very drowsy and very fatigue. VERY VERY Fatigue I mean so weak I can’t even do my normal activities no more.
I should also mention this too it probably can help out. I am a 21 year old Male that goes to CSUN.
I also did 3 type of tests and 2 of them were at the sleep clinic. The two tests were polysmnograph and the multiple latency tests. In the polysmnograph they found Sleep Apnea and periodic movement disorder, and in the MLT they didn’t find anything pecular. The third tests was a blood test called narcolepsy panel and I was found to have a gene of narcolepsy, but not a diagnosis of narcolepsy. I also had another blood test to see if I was iron deficient, but it proved to be fine.

I have been considering Nissen fundoplication surgery for my hiatal hernia, and would like to hear from people that have already had this done. I want to know, specifically, if this surgery improved any of the respitory conditions associated with GERD.

Also, will this place any restrictions on my pilot certificate?

Here is a crap load of background about me:

At one point I had done everything the doctor told me, including eliminating food from my diet that aggravates the condition, loosing weight until I was within the "healthy" parameters for my age/height/fitness, altered my sleep angle, and was on Nexium, Previcid, and Gaviscon. All of these actions helped the condition, but did not eliminate the symptoms. In fact, the symptoms were still so bad, that I gave up on the treatments.

I have been suffering from G.E.R.D. for my entire life, as I was born with a hiatus hernia. I also have hyperhydrochlorhydria, which aggravates the gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as causing Gastritis and similar symptoms in the lower GI tract.

As well as the common symptoms of G.E.R.D., I have also been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis as a child, and then later diagnosed with asthma as an adult. (it is believed that G.E.R.D. can cause asthma)

The spasms in my stomach as well as the acid levels have been much higher lately due to some increased stress. These increases have led to Laryngopharyngeal reflux, which seems to be causing sleep apnea like symptoms.

Once I can aford health insurance, I’ll happily go through the same process where the physician and specialists tell me to change my diet, lose weight, take drugs, so on and so forth. Eventually, i will have exhausted all the non-surgical options, and I’ll probably opt for the surgery.
RE: Sandy

Acutally, yes, I do have discomfort in my ears, as well as (gag) a lot of wax!

I’ve actually had fifteen reoccuring ear infections, as well as some vertigo and swimmer’s ear. According to Wikipedia, this can be connected to the GERD and LPRD
I forgot to mention that I have the "lump" sensation associated with LPRD, as well as throat pain. I decided to add these details as others had commented that they have these symptoms. Although it is not relavent to my question, I feel these added details may help shed some light on their conditions.

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastroesophageal_reflux_disease for GERD info, annd look for the links for LRPD and asthma
