Over the past few years I’ve had my fair share of memory problems. Nothing too severe, just slight forgetfulness, and it really never impacted my life. Well, the last few months, I’ve been having severe forgetfulness. I forget names of friends and family members, how to spell simple words without using spell check, songs I used to play from memory on the piano, I forget appointments, simple daily tasks, and things people just shouldn’t be forgetting at my age. In addition to this, I have periodic dizzy spells, every day I have a headache of some form. Some days it’s nauseating migraine headache, and others just a slight pulsing pain. I’m also always feeling tired, I often get over 10 hours of sleep and it does help me, but I don’t always feel rejuvenated.

There are a few things that I suspect could be causing this. The #1 is my weight. Granted I don’t consider myself to be obese, I’m 5′8" and 253 pounds, but was over 275 in the summer, and am continuing to slowly lose weight, yet with the weight loss the symptoms have not subsided.
I’ve also suspected sleep apnea, I believe I have a deviated septum, as I simply cannot breathe through my nose, and I’ve awaken many times during the night because I closed my mouth and could not breathe.

I know I should definitely see a doctor, but I want to have all of my needed information before I go, as I cannot afford to go. If anyone has some advice or helpful tips, I would appreciate it. Just let me know if you need more info. Thanks for your help.

I am an 18 year male, about 6′2" and 185 pounds. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism two years ago and have been on both synthroid and armor thyroid, which I am currently taking. The reason that I saw the doctor in the first place was because I was always tired and had no energy to do anything. My blood test showed my TSH being very close to 0 so I got on the thyroid hormone therapy and my levels are now back to normal. Now my problem is that I am still completely exhausted everyday and I have to take a vitamin/energy drink every morning just to wake myself up. Usually about once or twice every month I get to where I cant eat anything for about two days and I feel like puking and I usually dry-heave. I have been looking on the internet and have many symptoms of sleep apnea. My doctor has no idea and referred me to an endocrinologist but I cannot get in anywhere until the middle of October. I realize that it is the job of the professionals to diagnose and treat my problems but I need some advice to get me through the next couple of months. If anybody else has had these problems or knows someone that does it would be great to hear from you. If you do not have a serious answer please do not answer this because this is a serious problem.

Ok I’ve got asthma and sometimes I wake up at 2-3AM and I can’t breathe and move at all. At first I thought this was my asthma but it was actually sleep apnea. Please help I’m only 15 and I feel like nearly every night I have a chance of "kicking the bucket". What can i do to stop it?

So i recently had a sleep examination at a sleep lab, and it turns out I have sleep apnea (not breathing often while sleeping because of obstruction in airway), but for some reason I just don’t believe I have this sleeping problem because I don’t notice it when I sleep. Anyway, I am only 16, I’m 6′ 2" but over 300 lbs. I’m ALWAYS tired and depressed. I sleep almost every day at school, and I sleep when I come home for usually 4 hours. I was told that because I don’t breathe often in my sleep, I am unconsciously waking up throughout the night, resulting in unrestful sleep.

I slept for a night at the lab, and they tried me on with a CPAP mask. The next morning, they told me I slept well. I still don’t have any more information about how severe the apnea is, or when I’ll be getting my mask.

All I can say is, I’m sick of being obese, I’m sick of being tired, and I’m sick of always being sad and depressed. Do these sound like symptoms of sleep apnea?

A female friend of mine has Sleep Apnea, about two years now. Shes short, 5′ 2" and is 35 lbs overweight. She lost her health insurance due to a work related accident and can no longer work. Right now she has no income. She did the sleep study test when she had insurance and now has the breathing machine, but the mask has been broken for about 16 months and cannot afford a new one. 0. People die from this right? She’s preparing for the worse. She’s only 56.

Ever since I was 9, I was diagnosed with Asthma. It has ruined my life. I’m obese, when i never was. See, in middle school, because of my Asthma, I was taken out of gym class. Same with high school. Anyways, now I’m 20 years old, still obese, but now I’ve be diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I have a CPAP machine (level 11). I was wondering if my asthma could be all that I have. Here is my theory, OSA and nocturnal asthma are both "sleep-disordered breathing" according to an article written by Robert C. Basner. I’m wondering if my asthma kicked in, and I started coughing (which I’ve done before, not every night, but I’ve been known to wake myself my up when I cough) and if the Sleep Study people thought I had Sleep Apnea because of the coughing. Also, my hospital and doctor’s office are completely dumb. I’ve had other problems with this facility before. But, without that that, do you think that I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea when maybe all it was, was my Asthma? Any help would be great.

I am 52, recently diagnosed as post menopausal and have been having
extreme fatigue and sleepiness. It has become more or less regular for me to nap 2-4 hours when I get home from work. Often I won’t even hear the phone ring. Lately I’ve been waking up occasionally with a feeling of a catch in my throat or making a "snorting" sound. I’ve done a little on line research and it sounds very possible. I’m just wondering if anyone else out there has experienced similar symptoms. Any feedback would be helpful. (right now I’m a little anxious about the whole thing)

I’m 25/F Confirmed Diagnosis;I’m 5′6 350,I have; Arthritus (10mg 6x daily methadone),Sleep Apnea,High B.P. (Enalapril 10mg 2X daily),Restless Leg,Asthma,Lymphodema,Hyperhydrosis,Never ending pain in all joints, muscles, jaw. All of following worst on left side; Constant decreased sense of feeling/numbness every where worst from waist to under butt & inner thighs pelvic area,Stabbing/numbness in left back quadrant of head,Phsyically weak MUCH worse on left side.Had blood tests for cancer, liver, thyroid, adrenal, heart (adenesin test),cbc all good results, tests for blurry vision good as well however in dmv test where I had to answer as to which eye the blinking light was blinking in I had problems when it light blinked in left eye when the lights where nearing the middle towards my nose.) The chronic pain I’ve been told is mostly from my arthritus, however what is the relation of all the left side symptoms? Please offer you’r opponion so I can possibly help point my doc in right direction?
Note I had these same problems even when I was half the size I am now.
To the person that blamed me problems on "over eating"…That really hurt my feelings. You read my weight and assume that I am gorging on food when that is not the case. I have been monitoring my weight and been active in the last 2 years I have lost 100 (this year and the year before 75 with a total of 175lb). I think it is unfortunate that you made these asumptions, and to be quite honest really redicolus as I have never before been told this by any health professional (not even when i was at 525+ lb).
Melvana,Ty for you’r nice responce.I had these problems long before methadose. And before I got perscribed it I never heard of it being given for chronic pain either. However my pain mgmt doc uses it alot.

I recently have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and have started treatment with a CPAP. It makes me feel better but I just feel uncomfortable no matter how hard I try to get used to it. I am not obese(185 lbs, 5′11") so that is not the cause of my sleep apnea. I am meeting with my doctor soon to discuss other treatments outside of the CPAP, but I wanted to see if anyone could give me information or personal experiences on the surgery before I meet with him.

I am about to undergo surgery for sleep apnea. Surgeon says the recovery period will be the "worst I have ever felt". Someone who had the surgery said it just like a "bad sore throat" and not too terrible. I would like to hear from others who have had the surgery, and whether they had any negative aftereffects. I would appreciate only serious replies. Thanks.

I am 34, 145-150 lbs. 5′6" and diagnosed with a light case of Sleep Apnea in 2003. I’ve been on a CPAP machine now for about 9 mos. I am currently using the ResMed S8 Series C-PAP (pressure: 10) with a nasal pillow mask which seems to be working for me. I average 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but even after sleeping all night I still feel tired all day and find it hard to concentrate and listen. Almost daily, my appetite seems to lessen by dinner and I feel really drained. Sometimes It’s like feeling hungry and nausea at the same time (really weird). I’ve had tests done for thyroid, blood count, etc. which all came back normal. I can’t stay up late like I used to and I’m just really trying to get back my energy. I can’t remember the last time I actually woke up so refreshed that I was ready to go. I was just wondering if anyone else with apnea is experiencing these symptoms? If so, were you able to correct it? If not, perhaps this is some other problem yet to be diagnosed…?

Ok.. So I went to have a sleep study and I was very very uncomfortable and hated the enviorment but managed to fall asleep half azz asleep. I moved a lot due to discomfort in the bed. However I slept about 5.49 hours. Out of those 5.49 hours I have 2 obstructed apneas 2 Central apneas and 66 partial apneas. Now the 66 partials from what I was told are not a 100% cessation in breathing. My oxgyen levels never fell below 88%. Now I have been diagnosed just about a month ago with High Blood pressure but it was with a new doc that had no medical history on me and I have a long long history of low blood pressure. So I have lost 27 pounds since the sleep study and since being put on BP meds 29 days ago. I went back to to my CPAP Titration study and the tech had to come in and ask me to lay on my back because she was not getting any negative readings. Then when I moved to my back which was hard to stay on since I DON"T sleep on my back the highest level of setting the CPAP machine ended up on was 6 and she said that was pushing it. She said I dreamt alot and didn’t move as much as last time. ( This time I brought my own pillows)….. Along with all this my BP meds 5mg of Amlodipine 1 time a day is dropping my BP down to like 104/68 maybe 107/70 during the day and down to 90/64 with heart rate of 54 at night. Now this Doc seems to keep telling me :(ITS OK).. I don’t feel ok.. I am only 38 and I weight now 223 was 248 29 days ago. I am eating healthy quit smoking and drinking and no caffeine. This docs major patient base is geriatric I am thinking that he is over reacting to my symptoms and treating me by the book instead of by symptoms and as an individual. Maybe even more like if I were an elderly patient…. What is everyones opinons???? I just think he maybe has over reacted a bit and hasn’t allowed me to try and fix myself without meds.. Which I think is the most healthy way to do it as long as I am not placing myself in stroke or heart attack situations.. I mean this doc did an ekg and I have very large breasts and the EKG he said may have shown left ventrical hytrophy or something like that but anyway sent me for an echo and my heart was AWESOME they said and ejection rate was 67%. What do you guys think????? Sorry so long winded…. LOL!!!

My machine is set to "20".I take it off in my sleep an hour or two into sleeping..and dont remember it.Also, does it effect your stomach?
