I’m in the process of getting a machine, mask and everything. Can anyone give me any heads up on this subject before I go and buy ?

I’ve recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea; the full diagnosis was "obstructive, central, and mixed " I’ve been prescribed a CPAP, w/ full mask (CFlex). Guess my question is.. how soon can I expect to feel better, and just what will ‘feel better’ feel like? evidently i’ve had this for quite some time, and would appreciate hearing from someone with personal experience of treatment for same.
Thanx~

my mom is a patients that has sleep apnea and uses a cpap machine and fells like she is scared to use it cause she fells like shes claustrophobic and cant breathe with it on and whats to know about it and others problems and such.
she isn’t able to wear the mask because of it.

if you have/had the same problem then let me now.

PLEASE&&THANKS!!
Hannah
i have the nose tubes and still fill that way.

My grandfather is finding it hard to breathe while wearing the mask that is on his CPAP machine. He has a mask and just the tube for the nose but both make him feel like he’s having a hard time breathing, and he’s worried about wearing it at night.

my husband was recently diagnosed with mild apnea, so the doctor gave him a machine with a mask and told him he had to use it. there is a chip inside the machine that allows the doctor to see how long he uses the machine. if he doesn’t use it he could very well lose his license and job. however, when he goes to sleep with the mask on, he wakes up with it off. he unintentionaly takes it off in his sleep. he has even tried useing masking tape so the he would feel when he pulled the mask off. it didn’t work. they swapped his mask out. didn’t work. gave him sleep pills. didn’t work. he can’t keep it on. the only time he has ever slept with it all day (nightshift) is when i walked in the room and saw it was off and gently put it back on him. but i am in college and about to become a sub teacher, i can’t always do this. can you help me come up with a way to help him keep it on? please

Anyone that has sleep apnea and is using a c-pap machine. Have you had better sleep? Are there tips that you did to get use to your mask? I have been using my c-pap for almost a year and still feel very sleepy when I get up in the morning. I don’t know if this is normal or is there other issues. Is there people that have noticed this with their sleep as well?

My partner and I are disagreeing about the wording for our abstract. Would someone rewrite it using both or just give your opinion on which one i should use?

OPTION 1

Over 20 million Americans suffer some degree of sleep apnea; those who do suffer from Sleep Apnea, are prone to suffer from excessive sleepiness, waking frequently throughout the night, morning headaches, and severe side effects on the heart and circulation. This project was designed to inform those suffering, or those who know someone suffering from Sleep Apnea.
Data was extracted from many reliable sources, along with a live interview. It was determined that sleep apnea is not widely known and often goes undiagnosed. The general population has probably already been exposed to Sleep Apnea without knowing it. There are few cases that have negative repercussions that may be life threatening, and require a doctor’s assistance.
The doctor revealed that there are many different treatments available for sleep apnea that can help to reduce, if not eliminate, the side effects. It is recommended that you should begin a healthy diet to help reduce Sleep Apnia, some healthy measure you can take are: Avoid alcohol and sedatives, some medications are designed to keep the patient breathing overnight. People with sleep apnea can also use a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask or a BIPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) mask to relieve the symptoms. In severe cases, surgery may be required to relieve the symptoms.
More people need to know about sleep apnea because it could be depriving them of sleep and contributing to high blood pressure and other circulatory problems. This could inspire people to go consult their doctor about their sleeping patterns and get treatment if it’s needed.

Over 20 million Americans suffer some degree of sleep apnea; all of these people are in danger for side effects such as excessive sleepiness, waking frequently throughout the night, morning headaches, and severe side effects on the heart and circulation. This project was created to inform people about this condition so they can help themselves or family members that may be suffering.

Data was extracted from many reliable sites, pamphlets, books, and from a live interview with sleep expert. It was determined that sleep apnea is not widely known and often goes undiagnosed. The general population needs to be informed about this condition because there can be life-threatening repercussions that require being treated by a doctor.

The doctor revealed that there are many different treatments available for sleep apnea that can help to reduce, if not eliminate, the side effects. It is recommended that people with sleep apnea should lose a reasonable amount of weight in healthy ways, avoid alcohol and sedatives, can use medication to stimulate the brain to keep the patient breathing throughout the entire night. People with sleep apnea can also use a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask or a BIPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) mask to relieve the symptoms. I am 34, 145-150 lbs. 5’6" and diagnosed with a light case of Sleep Apnea in 2003. I’ve been on a CPAP machine now for about 9 mos. I am currently using the ResMed S8 Series C-PAP (pressure: 10) with a nasal pillow mask which seems to be working for me. I average 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but even after sleeping all night I still feel tired all day and find it hard to concentrate and listen. Almost daily, my appetite seems to lessen by dinner and I feel really drained. Sometimes It’s like feeling hungry and nausea at the same time (really weird). I’ve had tests done for thyroid, blood count, etc. which all came back normal. I can’t stay up late like I used to and I’m just really trying to get back my energy. I can’t remember the last time I actually woke up so refreshed that I was ready to go. I was just wondering if anyone else with apnea is experiencing these symptoms? If so, were you able to correct it? If not, perhaps this is some other problem yet to be diagnosed…?

To go to the bathroom Do you take off the mask or pull the flexible tubing off the machine??

sometimes he sleeps for less then 7 hours… is he required to wear the mask while he is awake for the last hour?

The machine has a hose that connects to a mask that you wear all night. It doesn’t have anything to do with my disorder but it would just look better!

I have my 2nd sleep study tonight and I know they will hook me up to the machine for breathing but I am wondering how it went for other people. I am nervous about how the heck I will be able to sleep with this ‘top gun’ mask on.

I have sleep apnea and use a sleep apnea breathing machine when sleeping (no oxygen) with a mask and distilled water. When travelling on an airplane internationally can I bring it with me so it is with me at the other country when I get there?

Did you ahver to have an overnight sleep test done at the hospital-and did your dr. of neurologist have to order it. Did Insurance give you a hassel. I am newely diagnosed but am on an oxygen converter and it does not help me sleep. I understand a CPAP does and would like to hear of your experience and if possible, the brand you use for the base unit and mask.
this would be of such help to me in my old age.

thank you for taking time to share with me.

It actually takes a full effort to reproduce the horrible sound I make in my sleep. And i hate myself for it. It’s such a terrible problem to have, and there is nothing I can do!

What causes really bad snoring, and is there anything I can do to help it?

I have been "diagnosed" if you will with Sleep Apnea if that’s how it’s spelled. They gave me a whole machine and mask to blow air down my throat. And that works fine and dandy… but I can’t quite drag that thing with me where ever I go. When I pass out under a dining room table, the first thing nearby friends sense in their terrible awakening is the horrible sound I’m broadcasting through the house.

Aww man it’s terrible. And I want to know what practical solutions I can use to fix it.

Ok I went to sleep studies and got put on a CPAP machine although I think I isn't really warranted because my apnea was not that bad, number-wise. So I am on this machine for a while now and my mask id the one that goes into my nostrils because I have a beard and the one that covers the nose leaks air and wakes me up. Well Lately the mask I am wearing makes my nostrils feel like they are on fire when I breathe in and the only relief is to take it off. But in doing this my wife of course is woken up and has a bad nights sleep after that. Is there a solid solution to snoring that does not include a CPAP machine? I don't feel any more refreshed in the morning with or without the machine. I am not really over weight but when I was thinner I didn't snore as much. I just need solutions so I don't drive my wife crazy again with the snoring!

i've had the machine for 3 to 4 months and at first it was fine. now at night water builds up or gets into the mask an drips into my nose when i roll over or runs across the top of my lip. it's very disgusting and when it happens i rip the thing off in a half sleeping panic and it totally disturbs my sleep.

the machine is the kind that heats the hose with a copper wire and as usual, i put distilled water in the tank.

is it possible it's just too dry in my house now that it's winter (i'm in ontario, canada so it's pretty darn cold out) and water is condensing inside the mask from my breathing? would putting a humidifier in the room help if that is the case?

has anyone had this happen? i need to make this stop since i'm not wearing the mask now most nights and i really need to (husband can't sleep and i sleep 10 to 12 hours when i don't use it).

thanks for any suggestions.
i have tried it with no water in it at all and that makes no difference.
i have also tried it with the moisture set to 0 (tank has been empty anyway) and the machine is at least 1 foot lower than the bed. probably a bit more.

Someone I work with heard about this new type of treatment that treats sleep apnea besides the CPAP that is a machine that continually keeps air flowing tthrough a mask that is worn. This new treatment, if there is such a thing is something else. This was second hand info so I'm not sure if this is right.

I have been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I have tried using a CPAP machine and I found out I was allergic to the material in the mask and also the nose tubes. So I had to give up using the machine. Are there any other remedies such as like using a cool mist humidifier to help resolve the blockage in the air way.

I live in Seattle. My sleep doctor has prescribed a Bi-PAP and I use it, but he will not do his job. He knows it isn't producing good results. He mentions no "out-of-network" providers or alternatives. He doesn't address all the problems I'm having. I have increased the pressure settings, with his knowledge, and am getting a second opinion from Virginia Mason Sleep Clinic. Apria, as a DME, is unacceptable. Numerous machines they provided, all Respironics, have broken. I dug up Lincare, on my own and went to their Seattle office last week. They fixed my mask, told me of other products I had learned of in the past few weeks on my own -without my asking. The bulk of my info on apnea and its treatment has come from newsgroups and sites dedicated to sleep disorders.

I use a saline solution daily.
Does ANYONE have ANY ideas or know of any other providers, DMEs, etc who can help? Please excuse the shouting & please help.

Was wondering if there might be some natural treatment for sleep apnea with out having to use the machine that you wear a mask all night and it puts greater inward pressure of air so you lungs fully fill up with air. My mother uses the machine and she wants me to be tested for apnea because of some symptoms I have but I doubt I could get used to wearing something all night. any suggestions.

Can you tell me what brand, modell number etc…..also about the mask…..or even the site I can find more information on it.

Thanks heaps!!

I've tried cleaning every part of the machine, tank, mask, hoses. (It has a passover humidifier) Changing the air filter, cleaning the room, the bedding, etc, hasn't made any difference. It's definitly the CPAP, not just another allergy, because if I don't use it one night, the symptoms clear up, and return immediatley when it's used again. Allergy meds don't help at all! Can anybody relate or help me?

I hate the mask (as many people do). I have severe obstructive sleep apnea. I am considering surgical options but I've been told the only one that may work for me is the mandibular advancement (when they break your jaw and move it forward). Has anyone had this before? What were your experiences? Did it work? Do you know of any other surgery that may help? Oral appliances?

I want to fly to the Philippines next near but I can't bring my sleep apnea machine with me because it's too large. I have to wait until I get to the VA Clinic in Manila to borrow one of theirs. Meanwhile, on the airplane, does the airplane provide a mask for me in order for me to sleep comfortably?
