My husband is 27 years old and always tired. Here’s alittle background info:
He has sleep apnea, he is on Paxil 40mg daily for anxiety, he is also on 40mg of Priolsec daily. He uses his sleep apnea machine on and off and if he does use it normally its only for a few hours. My husband works from 5pm-10 pm, then goes to his second job from 10.30pm-3.30am. He gets in bed around 4/4.30am every day. He wakes up at 11.30am.,so about 7 hours of sleep. Heres the problem, he’s constantly tired and falling asleep, especially while watching TV on the couch. This past Sunday he slept through the night (his day off), woke up at 6.30 am with our 10 month old, and went back to bed at 9am until noon, then woke up. Then later that night he went to bed a 6 pm and I woke him up at 10pm to go to his night job. Is his schedule making any sense? :) It drives me CRAZY that he is always so tired. WHat do you think is causing this? He doesnt help around the house very much so thats no causing excessive tiredness… help!:)

Over the past few years I’ve had my fair share of memory problems. Nothing too severe, just slight forgetfulness, and it really never impacted my life. Well, the last few months, I’ve been having severe forgetfulness. I forget names of friends and family members, how to spell simple words without using spell check, songs I used to play from memory on the piano, I forget appointments, simple daily tasks, and things people just shouldn’t be forgetting at my age. In addition to this, I have periodic dizzy spells, every day I have a headache of some form. Some days it’s nauseating migraine headache, and others just a slight pulsing pain. I’m also always feeling tired, I often get over 10 hours of sleep and it does help me, but I don’t always feel rejuvenated.

There are a few things that I suspect could be causing this. The #1 is my weight. Granted I don’t consider myself to be obese, I’m 5’8" and 253 pounds, but was over 275 in the summer, and am continuing to slowly lose weight, yet with the weight loss the symptoms have not subsided.
I’ve also suspected sleep apnea, I believe I have a deviated septum, as I simply cannot breathe through my nose, and I’ve awaken many times during the night because I closed my mouth and could not breathe.

I know I should definitely see a doctor, but I want to have all of my needed information before I go, as I cannot afford to go. If anyone has some advice or helpful tips, I would appreciate it. Just let me know if you need more info. Thanks for your help.
Just realized I didn’t post my age or gender. 23year old male.

He is a bit overweight but not tremendously (5’9–215lbs)–we have four small children and I am soo afraid that he is going to drop dead of a heart attack. His previous test revealed that out of just under 6 hours of sleep, he stopped breathing for just under 4 of those hours. He is using a CPAP Machine and has been for about 4-5 years–but lately it does not seem to be helping…please help. I can’t bear to see him so exhausted….

its biology, and i hear it is hard, should i only get 6.5 hours of sleep, or study and get 7.5 -8 hours of sleep?

It seems like even when I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep, I’m always exhausted the next day. My boyfriend says that when I fall asleep before him, I start to snore a bit, it gets louder and louder and then I wake up gasping for air and sit up really quick and then go back to sleep. He says I do this maybe 4 times within an hour period before he eventually falls asleep (so maybe even more times per hour). I never remember doing this at night. Is this sleep apnea? If so, do most insurances cover the sleep study required to diagnose it and cover the machine to aleviate it? I’m only 23.. why would I have this? Is it genetic? My dad seems to do the same thing.
I’m 5’5 and weigh 135. Not obese.

I always felt very tired during the day. Imagine you being the doctor and you were ask me question on how I felt I would respond by saying my symptoms. My symptoms are excessive sleepiness during the day, feeling fatigue very weak and drowsy, always feeling the need to sleep, when doing activity immediately felt fatigue, 8 hours of sleep ended up with unrefreshed sleep then immediately felt fatigue, felt slow downed and sluggish, depression and anxiety, have the narcolepsy gene, but don’t have it, was diagnosed with sleep apnea and have insomnia.
In addition if you asked me what is my healthy lifestyle I would respond by, I eat 3 times a day with healthy food of vegetables and fruit, I exercise daily consisting of 30mins to 1 hour, and always think positive. But during that activity I felt very fatigue and can’t complete it. I no longer could complete the activity. I wasn’t like this before I remember the symptoms started in the year 2000 and still progresses. It appears that it has gotten worse. I already saw my doctors and it appears they cannot find the source of the problem, they did mention it could be other problems but unsure what it is. I know live in a stress free environment and I should be doing better, however; I am not and very concern about it. Who knows it can probably make me even more ill and can probably be life threatening. Anyone know what specialist I should be seeing and what tests are needed to be done to fix this problem? You can email me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
Also to mention I was givin a sleep apnea machine and been using it since June 2007 until now and haven’t felt any difference, it appears that I still have the sickness, I was also given Provigil and been taking it. I have never missed a dose of it. Although it doesn’t have any effect on me. I notice 1 hour from taking the Provigil I immediately felt very tired and need to sleep followed by fatigue. I felt I should mention this cause it can probably help me find out what it is and to take care of it.
Well I do have sleep apnea, but it only happen during the sleep lab because they make you wear this vest to monitor your breathing and that caused it, but normally I don’t have it I had my family monitor me while I sleep. Like I said even with the machine I never felt relieved I wish I was. I also had insomnia now you can still get apnea though. Once your insomnia goes away you go to sleep and still can get apnea however I was told I was breathing fine without the machine. I am also shocked Provigil didn’t work so this couldn’t be sleep apnea for sure!
I also noticed that when I sleep I do sleep 8 hours uniterrupted if I did get interrupted probably 1 or 2 times, but I do noticed I wake up really early like 5AM and I would get up exercise to get me active, but then again followed by fatigue and need to sleep. I felt so weak that I can’t do normal activites no more and my mom was asking me why I don’t clean the house anymore and I told her I felt weak and sleepy. I know it isn’t laziness cause I never let my tasks fall behind I try to push myself to doing the activities, but it gets harder and harder. I feel like I am completely burnt out….
I feel physically and mentally fatigue and not sure what to do. I did see many doctors to help me resolve this and no results yet. I hope sooner or later I get back up and running again.
Yes I do eat fruits and vegetables lots of it 3 times a day. I even eat whole grain wheat bread and some protein from meat especially from beef I try to avoid turkey and such cause of that special proten tritophan or something that makes you drowsy. I do drink water at least 6 -8 glasses a day and I exercise 30mins to 1 hour a day, and I live in a low stressful environment, but even with that I feel fatigue, because I did come from a high stress environment back then but now I don’t have that stress problem anymore. But still suffer greatly from behing very drowsy and very fatigue. Is this the Epstein Barr Virus or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? Maybe major depression or lethargy possibly mononucleius. Well I really don’t know and wish to get to the bottom of this.
Like I said in the previous posts I do use a CPAP Machine! However the cpap machine doesn’t relieve my symptoms nor does it decrease it. I had it since June 2007 until now and still used it, but I still feel very drowsy and very fatigue. VERY VERY Fatigue I mean so weak I can’t even do my normal activities no more.
I should also mention this too it probably can help out. I am a 21 year old Male that goes to CSUN.
I also did 3 type of tests and 2 of them were at the sleep clinic. The two tests were polysmnograph and the multiple latency tests. In the polysmnograph they found Sleep Apnea and periodic movement disorder, and in the MLT they didn’t find anything pecular. The third tests was a blood test called narcolepsy panel and I was found to have a gene of narcolepsy, but not a diagnosis of narcolepsy. I also had another blood test to see if I was iron deficient, but it proved to be fine.

Recently I’ve noticed that I seem to be always tired, which makes it very hard to focus. I discovered this because I need to stay focused at my new job. I get up at the same time everyday, around 8 am, and no matter what kind of sleep I get I seem to feel tired more often then not. It’s not every single day I feel this way, just a majority of them. Always feeling tired like this affects my mind as it makes it cloudy and I have problems focusing and remembering simple things even short term things. Recently I’ve been sweating a lot while sleeping as well even though I always have the air conditioning on. I don’t seem to snore though which makes me feel as though it isn’t sleep apnea. Feeling this way also makes me very irritable during the day, which I always blamed on feeling tired. Another detail to note is that I’m not obese. I do get between 7-8 hours of sleep everynight and sometimes more on the weekends. What leads me to think it could be depression is that too much sleep can be one of the symptoms which on weekends if I dont force myself to get up I will remain in bed sleeping and feeling tired. Sometimes I do feel depressed it mainly happens at night when Im alone. I try to push these feelings aside and distract myself with tv or a game. These symptoms are found in both depression and sleep apnea. I want to be able to think clearly and not feel tired all the time. What could it be? Is it possible its all in my head?

I go to bed at 2:30 to 3:00 AM almost every night i and i still don’t fall asleep %40 of time. When i go bed at a more regular time like 12:00-12:30 i will probably only fall asleep 10%-15% of the time. Things are even wrose when school is going on i only get between 5-6 hours of sleep at night sometimes less or no sleep at all. I haven’t had any major tramus in my life, i don’t drink to much caffiene, i exericse EVERYDAY. I have drank a little before at parties and stuff but in past week i have been drinking every night to try and help my self sleep at little easier. I understand this could lead to a serious problem. By some people i am viewed as a very angry person i think my lack of sleep causes my grumpyness and i think that the alcohol makes it even worse. Do you think i have a condition, what do you make of all this?

I don’t have any symptoms other than i wake up exhausted,
like I didn’t sleep. It doesnt happen every day, esp if I get
9 or more hours of sleep I feel okay. But If I get less than
8 – 8 1/2 i feel like I am going to die!!

I don’t snore, never have, and im thin (BMI of 19.4)
Wondering If i could have Obstructive Sleep Apnea
anyways? If so is it uncommon?

I have also considered Adrenal burnout.

How much does it cost to have a sleep study done?
(uninsured)

Thanks
My husband or daughter have never said I have snored when I asked. They said the most I ever do is breathe heavy, but never snore.

I am 34, 145-150 lbs. 5’6" and diagnosed with a light case of Sleep Apnea in 2003. I’ve been on a CPAP machine now for about 9 mos. I am currently using the ResMed S8 Series C-PAP (pressure: 10) with a nasal pillow mask which seems to be working for me. I average 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but even after sleeping all night I still feel tired all day and find it hard to concentrate and listen. Almost daily, my appetite seems to lessen by dinner and I feel really drained. Sometimes It’s like feeling hungry and nausea at the same time (really weird). I’ve had tests done for thyroid, blood count, etc. which all came back normal. I can’t stay up late like I used to and I’m just really trying to get back my energy. I can’t remember the last time I actually woke up so refreshed that I was ready to go. I was just wondering if anyone else with apnea is experiencing these symptoms? If so, were you able to correct it? If not, perhaps this is some other problem yet to be diagnosed…?

I can get 10 hours of sleep and still feel very tired in the morning, come to think about it, I don’t think I’ve woken up feeling refreshed in years. I had my tonsils out to prevent ‘obstructive sleep apnea’ and it has helped with sore throats but hasn’t made my sleeping patterns any different. When I fall asleep, I stay asleep, rarely wake up and rarely move even though I am an extremely light sleeper always. I try to go to bed and wake up at the same times. It’s like I’m exhausted every single evening from a normal day. Do I have sleep apnea or could it be caused by smoking cigarettes?

I get about 6 hours of sleep with my machine. The first couple of weeks, it felt like I had a lot more energy, but lately I find myself wanting to take naps again and have a hard time staying awake.

I think I have either one of these, possibly even both. I don’t know if i snore at night or the other things that can lead to Sleep Apnea. I know i wake up pretty much everyday with a soar throat and that is a symptom of sleep apnea. Also, the fact that no matter how much or how little sleep I get, I take numerous naps during the day. I mean like naps that can be 2, 3, or 4 hours of sleep. I feel tired all the time. It’s ruining me and upsets me because how is it possible for me to be this tired all the time?

Do you think I have sleep apnea? Hypersomnia? Both?

And as for making a doctors appointment, what do I say to them? I would feel dumb calling in and saying, "I want to make an appointment because I think I have Sleep apnea or Hypersomnia."

I know that’s a silly question, but thanks in advance for any input!

I have like a sleep disorder , everday i get like 5 hours of sleep . I wonder can this impact your height ?

im 17 , male ,and still one inch shorter then my dad . And im skinny with barely any armpit hair .

sleep apnea. For the last few years I have been sleep
walking. I do alot of different things in my sleep & appear to others as if Im awake, but I never have any recollection of it, others tell me.

Im tired all day I cant go to bed early because I will wake up every 2 hours. But even if I get 7 hours of sleep Im still tired all day. Then mid-day around 1 or 2, It is terribly hard for me to stay awake. In my last job I would start nodding out so I would just lay my head down & take a nap comfortably. With my new job, I cant do that. But that doesnt stop me from nodding out!

Ive been having to drive in the middle of the day for my job and even still, I nod out. Its getting worse, just on Thursday I had a 45 minutes drive and came way too close to having 6 or 7 different accidents. Its very scary, Ive been waking up just at the right time. And it doesnt matter what I do, I cant stay awake.

My memory has also been awful and I have a headache at least 5 days a week.
Please give me any information you can. And if you need more details let me know & i will post. Oh & I also have an overactive bladder. and often have very vivid dreams, i dont think they could be called nightmares, but sometimes scary. Oh and bad back pain, which probably has nothing to do with it, but thought id let u know.

THANKS SO MUCH,

MANDEE
do you wake up gasping for breath? Do you snore loudly? Do your feet swell, especially the tops? Are you overweight? Have you had your tonsils taken out? Do you smoke, and drink, or both? What is your blood pressure? Do you find that you sleep better sitting up?

No i dont gasp, I dont snore, im actually about 20lbs underweight, my feet dont swell, I do smoke , i drink but only occasionally , my blood pressure is around low 100's/80's or 90's. and i rarely try to sleep sitting up if so its only breifly after nodding out. A guy at work who has it told me this. he has 4 out of 7 factors?

I am talking about a person who does not drink any alcohol, use any drugs (legal or illegal), and who has been this way most of their life? Also they are definitely a "morning person" but cannot focus well after about 8 pm and then start to sound naturally drunk by bedtime. (I know this is a sleep disorder because I found it once and now can't remember what it was).
I am not talking about sleep deprivation. I'm talking about regular and normal hours of sleep, such as 10-6 or 11-7 every night.
I think it may be part of "Advanced Sleep Phase Syndrome." Anyone heard of this before? (I have Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, the opposite of what I'm talking about here).

I am pretty sure I have Sleep Apnea as I am tired all day and do not sleep well at night. It takes me forever to go to sleep and as soon as I do I wake up gasping for air. I may get 1-2 hours of sleep off and on through an 8 hour time frame. I looked on my insurance and they do not cover sleep studies or Sleep Apnea. How much sould a sleep study cost and the machine cost that you wear at night to fix it?

I have been looking for sleep studies as they have them now and again for free but none have been offered for the past 6 months.

Thanks in advance!!!!

What are symptoms of sleep apnea? I'm 14 and am overweight. I always feel tired even though I get 8 hours of sleep everyday.

I've been reading up on this condition, however, I am still not sure if that may be my problem. I do not want to go to the doctor for no reason. I was hoping that someone with this condition can help me find out if I do need to go see a doctor.

My symptoms are sleepiness during the day. Some days I am so sleepy that I am irritable and just not fun to be around. I am usually tired like I had no sleep the night before or as if I had been doing a lot of work, which is usually not the case. I cannot remember a night when I got less that 8 hours of sleep. I usually get 8 to 10 hours every night. Mostly 9 or 10. However, when I get up, I am dizzy and tired and I definitely do not feel well rested. I think twice before getting out of bed because I still feel tired. When I do get up I do not usually feel sleepy then, only tired. It is during the course of the day that i become sleepy. Sometimes very sleepy that I have to get up and do something or I will fall asleep. I am always tired.
I forgot to add that I do not snore, at least I don't think, but I really don't think so.
