I am concerned. I was previously diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I underwent surgery about 3.5 years ago. I was not the typical patient as I was only 29yo and not severely overweight. Apparently I had very large tonsels and a deviated septum that resulted in approx. 375 nightly arrousals. I used to get up 4-8 times a night to use the bathroom. The surgery seemed like a dream come true to me. My follow-up sleep study showed me to be cured and the night time bathroom trips went down to 1 or 2, which I could live with. I also lost a good amount of weight and my thinking and memory were much clearer. However, my sleeping has become not as restfull as it was and my nighttime bathroom visits have increased to 3 or 4, which is starting to scare me. My weight has also increased. Any thoughts as to what I should try? I wonder if the surgery helped but didnt completely treat the sleep apnea. The weight increase seemed to increase the bathroom visits. I am a 32yo male, athletic build, 5′6" 192lb (was down to 175lbs and feeling great). Will losing weight help reduce the symptoms? Why do I urinate so often? I was tested for diabetes isipidus and bladder volume etc, no problems. Any help is appreciated!!!
My mum has recently been diagnosed with diabetes (within the past few years), and has a weight problem that seems to be causing sleep apnea. Despite this, she still eats sugary and fatty foods on a daily basis (for example she will sit down and eat a whole packet of chocolate biscuits by herself while watching tv.
Im really worried because she has a history of cancer in her family (her mum and dad both died of cancer). She doesnt seem to care at all about her health. Every time i try to talk to her about it she yells at me and tells me how shes had a weight problem all her life and she cant change it now. She says its too hard.
I dont know what to do or what to say because everytime i talk to her about it she yells at me and gives me the silent treatment until shes sure i wont bring it up again.
Please give me some ideas as to what i can do. Im out of ideas.
Thanks,
Andrew
Okay, sorry this is so long, i just had to explain myself :p
For about the past year or so I’ve been noticing that during the day I am always fatigued. Some days when i have nothing at all to do I could sleep about 16 hours. My mom didn’t think anything of it cause I’m 16 and she just thinks i stay out all night lol. I could sleep about 16 or so hours, wake up, be exhausted, and take a nap and sleep some more, then around 8 go back to sleep. I know this isn’t normal, and isn’t physically, nor mentally/emotionally healthy. I am anemic and i figured it was because my lack of iron. And thats also what my doctor told me. but recently i’ve been noticing that in the middle of the night I will get woken up due to bone aches. Not like muscle aches, but bone aches. And there so bad ill have to get up and take something and suffer through until the medicine kicks in. It’s normally like, my elbow, the bones all through my legs, and my pelvic area. I also wake in the middle of the night and catch myself not breathing. But that doesn’t happen as often as the aches. I did some research and found that i have many symptoms of sleep apnea. But i don’t want to be put on a breathing machine, because I don’t want to become dependent. I also don’t like, wanna be married and before bed have to plug up on oxygen or whatever. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any information or suggestions. Or if anyone knew if there were other procedures, not sergical, that I could take into consideration.
Thank you, if you read all of this and are attempting to help me. I appreciate it. :)
no, i am not overweight. i’m about 5′5 and weight 115. i dont have diabetes either.
And i also do not sleep on my back, I can only sleep on my stomach. And i’ve always been that way =/
I have no clue, but it’s possible. Here’s a list of things people think I have.
-type 1 diabetes
-A.D.D
-sleep apnea
And now here are some symptoms others and myself have noticed I have.
-stress
-bad mood
-urinating frequently
-increased thirst (drinking lots of water lately)
-I’m always tired now
-I have bad memory during the day
-I sometimes wake up with sore throats
-every once in a while I get this like sour/sweet breath
-Some days I get really hungry, some days I barely eat anything
-I’ve been getting a lot of headaches lately ( I rarely got them before and no it’s not because theres been more noise)
-I have pretty bad anxiety
-I can rarely focus for a long time
-I always give up on things if I don’t them right the first time even though I know I should give up
-I get really frustrated when I try to do home work/school work or a lot of things
-I’m almost always worrying or nervous about something
Shall I go on?
I don’t know I think i’m just being a hypochondriac. What do you think?
In case this helps I just turned 15.
Thanks you for all the serious answers I got.
Last night I took a sleep study, and the doctor called me back and said I have mild sleep apnea, and he was more concerned with my low oxygen levels, so he is going to do a test from my home when I sleep to check my oxygen with a cpap machine while I sleep. He asked if I have lung or heart problems, and I don’t know if I do. Do you think my family practitioner will check into these areas? and what is wrong with low oxygen levels? I do have high blood pressure, usually 138/90. I am overweight also. He told me if I lose 20 to 25 lbs my sleep apnea would go away, but does that mean my low oxy levels will go away? I’m a little scared because I do find it hard to breathe at times. I can’t lay down straight because my breasts seem to weigh down on my heart. Also, does insurance let you keep the cpap machine or do you have to give it back after more tests? Just curious. When they let me try it on last night on my sleep study, i felt such relief because I could breathe so much better with it on. I am also being checked for diabetes, thyroid problems. When I had the things on my neck and head last night for sleep study it like made my neck hurt bad, is this normal? Someone give me some insight.
Also would low oxygen levels have anything to do with my thyroid?

My dad’s just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and after having tiredness problems for years and being fobbed off by drs’ for years, I want to get tested for sleep apnea too. But I’m anxious the dr will say no, just diet and exercise and you should be fine…Like the one older dr said last time, when my usual dr wasn’t available. But I’m tired most of the time I can’t be bothered. I get in from work, wash my work clothes, eat a microwave meal, then go to bed. Just recently my sleep’s gotten worse. I’ll get in and with no work the next day, I’ll have dinner then sleep from 7.30 to 6am! No break in between. Most tests I’ve had I had to ask for, iron test, diabetes test, all fine. So any tips for asking my doctor?
In Australia we don’t have insurance, but I am on concession so I just pay a small fee.
Hello and thank you all who have been helping my wife with me and my adema situation. We are lost yes I have all the symptoms of heart failure, but yesterday my cardialogist did a echo test and stress test he said I am fine with no heart problems. What else could be causing all this water weight and weight gain. I have gained over 50 pounds in less then two months. It started the day before i have back surgery and now that I had back surgery its gotton worse to wear it hurts now. I only eat once a day. I have sleep apnea and diabetes which doctor said will get better with weight loss, I have start of emphazima, high cholestrol. The pills I have taken are lasiks 120mg a day for two weeks now, percocete for pain and vicodin, I have taken provigil to stay awake, and I have two inhalers I take daily. Anyone with any suggetions or advice or clues to what this might be. thank you all so much.
8 years ago I stopped my menstral cycle, I took pills to make it come on, but they eventually stopped working, my OBGYN Specialist was not concerned about this at all. I started to develop Diabetes 2, Hemochromotosis, Sleep Apnea, and others, it started soon after they stopped and had progressively developed other problems to. I have had hormones checked, blood work to rule out menopause, bone density, ultra sounds, and nothing as to why they have stopped I am currently 42 yrs. old, it stopped when I was 34 yrs. old. Does anyone have an idea, because I do not want any other medical problems. Help!
I’m 30f and a big girl, 5′9 225. I’ve had two sleep studies and have been using a c-pap for over 4 years now.. I still wake up a couple of times a night and sometimes my mouth is drooling and wet. I do stay asleep longer than I did before c-pap, at one time I woke every hour and a half. But on the whole my symptoms don’t seem that much different than before the c-pap. It’s been going on so long that I’ve just accepted it. Is it normal? Should I be doing something about it? I also have diabetes and asthma.
The Dr. just diagnois me with Bradycardia at 48 bpm 70% of the time and 58 bpm at my highest rate also, he had found two leaking valves. I’m also over weight which doesn’t help but, I’m limited because of my arthitis that I have. What would be my next step. The Dr. said that I was not on any med’s that would slow my heart rate down. I also have type 2 diabetes. I’m going to have a sleep apnea test done next week. Thank you for any help answering these questions. What should I expect to happen from all of this? Thanks again.
i love to sleep. i always sleep but i used to LOVE it lol. as sad as it may sound. but anyway…for as far back as i remember i would nap during the day. i didn’t HAVE to nap but i would. a 15-30 min nap would do wonders for me. but recently i have been HAVING to sleep and get tired during the day. i have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and use a treatment for that which they have tested on me and they say it works.
lately in the past few months ive just been extreamly exhausted. i need to take naps during the day or else i can’t function. i often get very sleepy while driving or sitting for more than 20 min. when i get home from work and school i have to take a nap which now lasts about 2 hours. its annoying that im always so tired because i have things to do and im just to exhausted to do them! i sleep about 6 hours a night and often when i sleep more the symptoms worsen. what can i do? do u think its diabetes??? im worried! :(
i was involved in a sleep study where i was able to get benefit from nose strip kind of things. they hooked me up and they work just like the CPAP maching, where they helped my breathing while asleep.
Otherwise a fit individual, I have sleep apnea, I am not over weight as many are with this problem. I also have ADD and diabetes..does anyone know if there is a drug that can be taken to relieve at least some of the chronic fatigue caused by there problems. I have heard vitamin B12 shots helps some people. Is the re a B12 injection that you can administer to yourself at home daily as prescribed by a doctor? Diet? Vitamins? any help from thos of you that have chronic fatique regardless of the reason would be appreciated…
I am 460 lbs. I have Type II non-insulin dependant Diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, and hypersplenia.
I was scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery on April 5th, 2007 but they aborted the operation due to the esophageal varices. The GI specialist that my bariatric surgeon sent me to says there in NO TREATMENT. Yet my surgeon will not allow a second opinion. Please leave any advice you have.
i feel my heart beats fast and irregular, sometimes a little cramp near heart and i jump up for air leaving me jittery, dizzy, sometimes confused. when trying to fall asleep, i feel like i’m going into a deep sleep or coma. feels weird. ekg in the ER was normal, saw my doc and he looked at me like i was crazy. i feel like its a heart attack or stroke but i dont have any of those symptoms. i have lots of issues, sleep apnea (use CPAP), diabetes, high blood pressure, bad sleep habits. any suggestions?
Is this a symptom of Diabetes?
My father has this HORRIBLY, and I was just wondering.
What is sleep apnea? I am fourteen and am overweight. I sleep for 8 hours eveyday, but I’m always tired. I have frequent headaches and seem to be fatigued no matter how much I sleep. My family has a history of diabetes. My uncle sleeps a lot, but he stays awake for days at a time. Could diabetes cause this as well (I didn’t have it last time I went to my doc).

Sleep apnea disorder has been determined having close associations with several health problems including heart attack, diabetes, and many more.Researches have established such linkages with evidences. But there is no such conclusive list of diseases and disoarders that are linked to the sleep apnea. In other words, how many diseases and disorders sleep apnea could lead to?
I’ve been diagnosed with sleep apnea, diabetes and now my girlfriend thinks i have ADHD. I haven’t been able to hold down a job for a while…I always suffered from restlessness, being tired all the time and just plain fatigued. I’ve had sleep studies, operations to correct my sleep problems, been put on diets and pills to help me live a normal life but none of this stuff has helped me much. When doing any thing my mind wanders constantly. I can never focus very well or have clarity and tend to procrastinate all the time. Exercise seems to help a little but doesnt solve my problems. I can never concetrate on 1 thing for to long and tend to jump from one thing to another, rarely finishing anything i start. Most of the time when things require any mental effort on my part i get frustrated very easily by it. I’ve never been diagnosed with ADHD but i’m sure i have it. Someone i met at a quilt shop my girlfriend shops at suggested i try and get on disability for my ADHD. Is this possible?
I need some tips on living with someone with sleep apnea. My father was diagnosed while he was in prison with sleep apnea and was on a cpap machine. When he was released he was not on a cpap machine and has snored horribly, keeping me up all night. I've tried to talk him into doing a sleep study so he can get a cpap machine but he has told me numerous times that he wants to wait until he loses weight and gets his diabetes under control. His diabetes is under control, but he is still convinced that he will stop snoring once he loses weight. He doesn't realize that he snored just as bad as he is now when he was a healthy weight.
My room is right next to his, the walls are paper thin, I am losing so much sleep I don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone with this kind of experience give me some tips on how to get used to it?
My husband has diabetes and Sleep Apnea. Can you tell me if you have diabetes can this cause you to have Sleep Apnea?
My husband has sleep apnea and will not use the machine. He also has diabetes. He goes to work, comes home sleeps for about two hours, goes to bed at 12:00 AM and gets up about 4:30 for work. On the weekends he will sleep if you let him about 14 hours a day. He would do this during the week but he has to go to work. I just don't know what to do. I'm very concerned.
