Over the past 3 weeks i haven’t been able to get a full nights rest,i always fall asleep and wake up about 10-30 minutes later then it takes me about 3 more hours to fall asleep again i have almost all the symptoms for it (Not obesity) Ive lost my interest in women my grandpa told me i snor when i sleep,im fucking horrible in school (worse than i was before) im sleepy all day, wake up early in the morning, and when i tell my dad i think i have it he just laughs and says "youll be fine" and when i wake up and go out in the living room he tells me to shutup and go to sleep. Im very scared because i read that this can kill you over time someone please help me someone even the slightest bit of info ill take.

so my dad has severe sleep apnea. its mixed apnea (obstructive and central) and he has episodes 70 times a night. he uses a machine (CPAP or BiPAP) to breathe.

what does this mean? will he be okay? is his life in danger?

My dad has recently been diagnosed with Sleep apnea and is using a CPAP machine at night. He’s been having a hard time sleeping with it and so I wanted to get him something to help make it easier for him sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may make it easier for him? I was thinking of getting a noise machine to help him relax and take his mind off of the mask on his face; would that help at all?

He has severe sleep apnea and uses a c pap machine nightly when he is home. I was wondering if once someone begins using one, will their body become dependent on it making the apnea worse when they are not using it? I’m asking because my dad travels back and forth to china every month and has admitted he does not use it on the plane! He also dozes off while watching tv and obviously doesn’t wear it then. I just worry about him.

I was online and my dad did not sign out of his email account..I know it was wrong but I looked at his email and found emails he has written to a woman!! He wrote things like he and my mom have not had sex in ten years and he will not divorce her because there is to much money involved and my brother has a learning disability (he is 32 yrs old) it would break his heart….he wrote things in his emails about his love for this woman how much he loves her ect.. I felt sick to my stomach after reading them and wish i haven’t..I know my parents have had problems they sleep in separate bedrooms..my mom is always nagging him about money..I always though they slept in separate bedrooms because of his sleep apnea machine (my mom complains about the noise) but according to his email its that way because they just don’t sleep togther anymore–I don’t know how I am gonna look at my father after reading all this..

My dad’s just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and after having tiredness problems for years and being fobbed off by drs’ for years, I want to get tested for sleep apnea too. But I’m anxious the dr will say no, just diet and exercise and you should be fine…Like the one older dr said last time, when my usual dr wasn’t available. But I’m tired most of the time I can’t be bothered. I get in from work, wash my work clothes, eat a microwave meal, then go to bed. Just recently my sleep’s gotten worse. I’ll get in and with no work the next day, I’ll have dinner then sleep from 7.30 to 6am! No break in between. Most tests I’ve had I had to ask for, iron test, diabetes test, all fine. So any tips for asking my doctor?
In Australia we don’t have insurance, but I am on concession so I just pay a small fee.

All the symptoms of sleep apnea match my dads sleeping habits.Like sometimes while hes sleeping and snoring really loudly(its so annoying) he stops breathing and i think hes like gonna die or something? My dad has had a stroke and he has blurred vision and he couldnt speak normally and he STILL thought he was fine…hes very stubborn and wont do anything till its too late.Plus im only 12 and if anyone can convince him to go to the doctor it wouldnt be me.Im really scared cause i heard sleep apnea can result to heart failure and thats how my grandfather(my dads father) died. I really care about my dad but noone even all of his family and friends put together can convince him to go to the doctor! Please help me!

Thanks for reading all this i really appreciate it:)

Well, i dont really much about it, but my mom just recently left to visit her grandmother, and my dad has sleep apnea. she told me to sleep with him to make sure he is alright, and im 16 so doing so would be kind of awkward, and i move around alot when im trying to sleep, so i wouldnt want to prevent him from falling asleep. so can anything bad happen if my dad isnt being watched when he sleeps? he has a CPAP machine btw

It seems like even when I get 8 or 9 hours of sleep, I’m always exhausted the next day. My boyfriend says that when I fall asleep before him, I start to snore a bit, it gets louder and louder and then I wake up gasping for air and sit up really quick and then go back to sleep. He says I do this maybe 4 times within an hour period before he eventually falls asleep (so maybe even more times per hour). I never remember doing this at night. Is this sleep apnea? If so, do most insurances cover the sleep study required to diagnose it and cover the machine to aleviate it? I’m only 23.. why would I have this? Is it genetic? My dad seems to do the same thing.
I’m 5′5 and weigh 135. Not obese.

My dad, he’s in his early 50s, and i would say that he probably isn’t the healthiest one in the world. He has these following symtoms:

sour stomach and sour taste on his tongue, which the doctor says it’s acid reflux. They gave him acid reflux med.

Headaches that sometimes makes him throw up, but nothing really comes out, he says he just feels better when he lets the air out. ???
The doctor says it’s migrains.

tired during the day a lot, takes naps. i think it might be sleep apnea but he doesn’t believe me.

And now the doctor says he’s depressed and says his migranes are psychological because he’s to worried about things and he doesn’t have much of a social life.

If you have any idea what this might be, please let me know or if you might know someone who has this symptoms. We have been to so many doctors and they just don’t take us seriously.
He also is pretty lightheaded from all the med. that the doctor prescribes him but the doc says it’s psycological again.

I believe my dad has sleep apnea, because he is always snoring and and often sleepy during the day, the two major symptoms of this disease. I know if I tell him this, he will take it jokingly and lightly, when I want him to take it seriously, as it can be very dangerous. (Sleep apnea is when, although the person sleeping may be unaware of it, he or she actually stops breathing while sleeping, and it can be fatal if the breath is held for too long.) How can I tell him to see a doctor?

I’m 18 years old. 5′7 and 140lbs so i’m pretty healthy. My therapist and family doctor want me to have a sleep study. i wake up at least 3 times a night but i’ve always been that way. what could be some reasons to have one. and my dad has sleep apnea is it genetic?

My dad has all the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea, but he wont see a doctor for it. I know if sleep apnea goes untreated it can be deadly, so how can I convince my dad to see a doctor???

see my dad has sleep apnea and hes tiered constantly and hes getting kinda sick over being unhealthy whhen he sleeps i mean im really worried cuz in the middle of the night my dad stoppes breathing for up to thirty seconds or more..

i told my parents i have sleep apnea but they don’t believe me. I told my dad but he ignored me and my mom said to just ignore it. I’m sick of having to deal with this and it really scares me that i might die and i’m only ten. Once i had a dream that the school was flooded with water and i tried to reach the top for air then i woke up and realized i wasn’t breathing. i have it for tons of times and sick of it not being treated

My 16 month old has never been a good night sleeper. He sleeps a couple of hours and then wakes up briefly. It used to be for a bottle, but now its either for a drink or he just sits up whining and then goes back to sleep. I noticed last night that he holds his breath while he is sleeping and then slowly lets it out making a moaning sound. His dad does this if he is really tired, too. Does this sound like a form of sleep apnea or just a normal kid thing? I’m wondering if he is waking up b/c of this. He has his check up at the end of July and I’m gonna mention it to the pediatrician. Do you know if they would do a sleep test on him? Just looking for mom’s or dad’s who may have experienced this. Thanks in advance!!

my dad was full asleep when all of a sudden he awoke in a flash gasping for a breath of air. this lasted for almost a minute. I did some research and found that he shows the symptoms of sleep apnea from this site; (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000811.htm#Calling%20your%20health%20care%20provider)I guess he was choking on his vomit in his sleep? Does anyone know how severe sleep apnea is? how easily can it be treated? we called the local hospital but they didnt have a nurse on call, does anyone have any advice on what we should do.. call an ambulance? or is it something that isnt likely to happen again?

my therapist and family doctor want me to have a sleep study done during my winter break from school.. i’ve always had trouble sleeping but why should a sleep study be done
i did have depression, i keep going to my therapist to prevent any relapse. and my dad has sleep apnea is it genetic?

I ‘forget’ to breathe sometimes. Sounds weird, or ‘blonde’ (I heard a joke about this and blondes when I was a kid), but I’m not blonde. This is for real. I first noticed that I would periodically take unusually large breaths, then noticed that the large breaths directly followed a few moments of no breathing. It happens when I am awake. I doubt it happens when I sleep. I do wake up sometimes (0 to 4 times a night), but I dream a lot every night. My dad has sleep apnea and said some symptoms of sleep apnea are waking up often and not (remembering) dreaming. He also said it’s hereditary. I’m wondering if it’s taking a different form in me, but I can’t find much information about apnea. It’s all about sleep apnea. I did find that apnea can be caused by a neurological disorder or trauma. What kind of neurological disorder or trauma? Any links to good sites with info on apnea? Or any experience with this sort of issue?
You may not be a doctor, but I just need a direction to go in.
Thanks.

My dad is very stubborn. I am so sure he has sleep apnea because I looked up the symptoms and he pretty much matches all of them. Loud snoring, long pauses in his breathing (20-30 seconds), extreme sleepiness throughout the day, irritability, fatigue, mood changes, and headaches. Sleep apnea can cause serious problems in one’s life and I am so scared for my father. When ever we go out to a hotel on vacation and have to sleep in the same room, I can hear the pauses in his breathing and it freaks me out because I am afraid he is going to die or something. I asked him why he doesn’t go to the doctor so he can get treatment, but he insisted that everything was okay. My dad hates admitting he is wrong. How can I convince him that he needs to see a doc asap so he won’t have to continue having these problems? Its really taking a toll on me also (the irritability and mood changes). Thanks for taking the time to read this. :]
