I have a moderate to severe case of sleep apnea. Each night I sleep with a CPAP (continous positive airways pressure) machine. It works great, but is there an alternative because I’m getting sick of wearing this thing. Is there a surgery perhaps??

I recently have been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and have started treatment with a CPAP. It makes me feel better but I just feel uncomfortable no matter how hard I try to get used to it. I am not obese(185 lbs, 5’11") so that is not the cause of my sleep apnea. I am meeting with my doctor soon to discuss other treatments outside of the CPAP, but I wanted to see if anyone could give me information or personal experiences on the surgery before I meet with him.

My CPAP is not making the severe sleepiness go away. I get so sleepy I trip over things and am like being drunk. Yes-the sleep apnea was severe.

The CPAP works when it stays on my head as I sleep, but it keeps coming off. I wouyld hope that someone out there is going through what you are going through and what are you doing to fix this problem.

I have been told by doctor’s that I have sleep apnea, but cant afford a sleep study to get the cpap any suggestions on curbing it? Are there natural steps to help with sleep apnea or at least the symptoms of it. Any idea’s on how to get a cpap without a sleep study done?

Did you ahver to have an overnight sleep test done at the hospital-and did your dr. of neurologist have to order it. Did Insurance give you a hassel. I am newely diagnosed but am on an oxygen converter and it does not help me sleep. I understand a CPAP does and would like to hear of your experience and if possible, the brand you use for the base unit and mask.
this would be of such help to me in my old age.

thank you for taking time to share with me.

I have been on one many years but he ordered setting 16 and the machine only went to 15..just got a new machine that goes to 20..company suggested I try 17 (as I was apparently still snoring even with cpap on) and go up in increments of 20 to see if it helps.

I have all the symptoms of sleep apnea (depression, memory loss, lack of concentration, no energy, always tired) except for morning headaches despite using cpap (at the setting 15).

I am wondering what effects will I immediately notice or notice with time if it is helping. He said his brother lost 60 pounds, is this because of more energy??

Please answer if you have any answers as I am most anxious to know if I am better after about 15 years on cpap with little benefit. I just used lst night for the 1st time, but don’t feel that different (although I did dream).

thanks
that last sentence should read anxious tio know if I will get better not if I am better

Someone I work with heard about this new type of treatment that treats sleep apnea besides the CPAP that is a machine that continually keeps air flowing tthrough a mask that is worn. This new treatment, if there is such a thing is something else. This was second hand info so I'm not sure if this is right.

I have tried a cpap for sleep apnea and I just cant get used to it. I have made an appointment with a dentist for the oral device. Has anyone gotten? How much does it cost?

I take Lunesta. Have been off and on for about a year and a half. Lately I am not sleeping thru the night. I am waking up around 2-3am and pretty much awake until I have to get up at 6. I am exhausted. I have has some stress lately in my life. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. I do have "mild" sleep apnea(I was told a cpap may or may not help). I snore some. And I sleep with earplugs…Does anyone have any ideas that might help me sleep thru the night? I exercise some, i am not overweight. I would prefer something that isn't a medication solution. As I already take something…
I don't know if my waking up is stress related and an anti depressant is the last thing I need.

My brother has been prescribed the CPAP and can't tell much difference in his sleep. He is due to go for a checkup to the sleep clinic and doesn't want to tell them this because he's afraid they will make him go through another 00 worth of sleep tests to adjust settings or something.

So if he can make the CPAP thing work better without having to tell the docs, it will help his health and checking account. Anybody know about this?

Thanks =D

I've tried cleaning every part of the machine, tank, mask, hoses. (It has a passover humidifier) Changing the air filter, cleaning the room, the bedding, etc, hasn't made any difference. It's definitly the CPAP, not just another allergy, because if I don't use it one night, the symptoms clear up, and return immediatley when it's used again. Allergy meds don't help at all! Can anybody relate or help me?

He uses a CPAP and forgot to pack the nasal pillow.

He's propped up on 3 pillows and sleeping sitting up, but I want to find something for him.

I have been on a CPAP for 18 months now, and acquired United Healthcare Choice Plus insurance several months ago. Will they cover my masks, CPAP and future sleep treatments?
