I’m thinking about seeing a doctor about it. After some time reading about the symptoms and their long-term affects, I feel like I’ve been missing out on what real sleep should feel like.

So, for those who have it or know something about it, I have a couple of questions:

1. With the following symptoms, would you say I’m pretty likely to have it?
- Overweight
- Sleep with my mouth open and wake up with dry mouth most mornings
- breathe through my mouth almost exclusively when I sleep
- irritable/anxious/depressed, especially in the afternoons/evenings
- never feel like I got enough sleep regardless of how long I slept
- Wife says I snore, sometimes quite loud
- Wake up intermittently without any reason, and then I have to go to the bathroom

My wife says she has never noticed me stop breathing or gasp for air, but she is a sound sleeper and always falls asleep before I do. She can get to sleep in like 10-15 minutes, while it takes me at least 30 minutes, sometimes an hour or two, and that’s after the melatonin has kicked in.

2. How long does it take to get used to a CPAP machine? Does it work?

Now for some information. I recently underwent a sleep study for sleep apnea and after being sleep deprived for most of my adult life (I am 46) I am now using a CPAP machine. Since beginning this therapy I can’t sleep more than 6 hours per night and usually only 5. I awake refreshed and need no more sleep throughout the day. Is this common for people who begin using CPAP machines and will I require more sleep as time goes on. I have been using this for 6 months.
If you are using CPAP therapy I would appreciate your answers.

In which companiese, I can buy sleep apnea treament CPAP machine? Please list the CPAP dealers with company website so that I can compare the price and service. Million thanks!!
In which shop is better to buy CPAP machine in the USA

I want to get a CPAP, I’ve been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, but I couldn’t make the appointment for them to find my correct pressure setting. How important is it to know that pressure setting? I want to buy my own CPAP machine but I don’t know what pressure to set it at.

I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have been using a cpap machine for about a year and a half. Since that time I have not slept longer than 7 hours a night and most nights I only sleep 5 or 6 hours. Is this normal for people most people using this type of therapy?

I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea about a year ago. I was given a cpap machine and I tried to use it a couple of times, but gave up on it. If I start using it regularly, how much of a difference will I notice in my everyday life? Also, does anyone have any tips on how to get through the first couple of weeks using the machine?

I did a sleep study for my doctor because he thought I had sleep apnea. Well I did it, and the sleep apnea doctor called me back the same night after I did it, and told me I had Mild sleep apnea, but his concern was with my low oxygen levels. He said he wanted me to stay at my house and sleep with a cpap machine and check my oxygen levels for a night, and he said my doctor would call me back or the company that does the equipment, well low and behold noone calls me for over a month, so I called the office and they said they hadn’t received the results yet. So anyway I had to take my daughter to the same doctor today and while I was there I asked him if he received the results yet, and he told me to ask the office girls? (what a doctor) so I go out there and ask the office workers if they received them, well low and behold they had received them the day after I had it done, and the doctor I guess just doesn’t look at his patients info when it is faxed in. I guess the dumb office workers just glance at it and file. So anyways they gave me a copy of this fax and the sleep doctor has all this stuff he suggests that my doctor do like have done what he told me with the cpap machine, and also maybe look into surgury, and he suggested a pulmonary and cardiac evaluation since I’m only 30. I don’t understand why my doctor just doesn’t do anything about this, The sleep doctor said on this report my lowest saturation of sleep oxygen was reduced to 63.1%. I think that is pretty bad. I have trouble breathing when I try to go to sleep without taking something to sleep, because when I take something I don’t have to think about it, I just get zonked out. What should I do? I want to defiantly change doctors, but can he get in trouble for this, or since this doctor just suggested it would it not matter. I feel so uncared for at this doctors office, why have me do a sleep study and not even look at my results. Someone please give me info and advice I need so badly. If I change doctors and give them these results will the insurance still go by them and let my new doctor help me?

I have recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea and just got a CPAP machine. It’s taking some getting used to, and I have used it only during the day so far when I’m awake. Hopefully, I’ll get used to it soon and will be able to use it when sleeping.

My question: What benefits did you users notice? I have extreme daytime fatigue and often feel like I’m functioning at only about 50% cognitively. Do you feel more alert and focused from improved quality of sleep with the CPAP?
I just got the CPAP today. I spent about half an hour with the mask, with the technician monitoring and giving me instructions and etc. When I had my last sleep test, I spent some time awake with it on, and managed to sleep a few hours with it.

I’m not accustomed to anything on or near my face when I’m sleeping, and I have to stay pretty much in one position.

I plan to try to sleep with it tomorrow night. It’s not like I’ve had it for months and am refusing to use it! It’s just new and foreign to me.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea last year after having 2 sleep study testing done , I got put on a cpap machine and tried every mask u could Imaging. I would pull it off somewhere thew the night. I went to see the sleep dr last week and he said that i have a very mild case of apnea and would like me to try this anti snore shirt from rem-a- tee. Its a belt that wraps around as high as you can get it under your arms and comfortable and snug as you can get it with three pouches in the back your blow up theses 3 inflatable bumpers and put them in each pouch, u have to lay on your side, and it stops u from rolling on to your back , and if u do roll on it in a deep sleep your back is in so much pain the next day and your hip hurts to, i been doing some searching on the computer for other devices, there’s 2 that im checking out ones a mouth piece that u use which some people say hurts your lower jaw,, than there this one its called the jaw strap where you wear it strap over head and jaw both have testimonies that said they work? does anyone have this problem and ran into anything that didn’t hurt are annoyed you like the cpap machine and all that crap on your face.

My dad has recently been diagnosed with Sleep apnea and is using a CPAP machine at night. He’s been having a hard time sleeping with it and so I wanted to get him something to help make it easier for him sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may make it easier for him? I was thinking of getting a noise machine to help him relax and take his mind off of the mask on his face; would that help at all?

I’ve been using a cpap machine for mild sleep apnea. It is turned up to 11, now I ask I thought the machine is supposed to help you sleep better so when you wake up you feel refreshed. Well, I still feel tried and not to energized. They did the tritation and said I was good at 10 so anyone know what I should do now?

Last night I took a sleep study, and the doctor called me back and said I have mild sleep apnea, and he was more concerned with my low oxygen levels, so he is going to do a test from my home when I sleep to check my oxygen with a cpap machine while I sleep. He asked if I have lung or heart problems, and I don’t know if I do. Do you think my family practitioner will check into these areas? and what is wrong with low oxygen levels? I do have high blood pressure, usually 138/90. I am overweight also. He told me if I lose 20 to 25 lbs my sleep apnea would go away, but does that mean my low oxy levels will go away? I’m a little scared because I do find it hard to breathe at times. I can’t lay down straight because my breasts seem to weigh down on my heart. Also, does insurance let you keep the cpap machine or do you have to give it back after more tests? Just curious. When they let me try it on last night on my sleep study, i felt such relief because I could breathe so much better with it on. I am also being checked for diabetes, thyroid problems. When I had the things on my neck and head last night for sleep study it like made my neck hurt bad, is this normal? Someone give me some insight.
Also would low oxygen levels have anything to do with my thyroid?

I have sleep apnea and wear a cpap machine at night. For the past couple of weeks I have been getting this shock feeling on my tongue. It wakes me up. Sometimes it hurts really bad and other times not so much. I thought I was getting shocked by my cpap machine but I don’t think that is it. Can anyone tell me what this could be?
No I have not.

I have lost a great deal of weight and no longer have sleep apnea issues. I can sleep without the CPAP machine, but sometimes just like to put it on anyway. I guess I am just used to it as a habit or comfort thing. How do I wean myself off of it and start going to sleep without it?

I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, but i am still not sleeping well and i’m pretty sure it’s due to the fact that at least one of my nasal passages is blocked during sleep. I been prescribed Nasonex to help but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. Can anyone suggest anything else that might help keep my nasal passages clear?

I was diagnosed as having a mild case and put on a cpap machine for a trial (3 months). What i want to know is from anyone who has been on/is currently on a cpap how they are doing. Any changes in feeling more rested, better memory, mood, etc? How long after being on it did you see results?

He is a bit overweight but not tremendously (5’9–215lbs)–we have four small children and I am soo afraid that he is going to drop dead of a heart attack. His previous test revealed that out of just under 6 hours of sleep, he stopped breathing for just under 4 of those hours. He is using a CPAP Machine and has been for about 4-5 years–but lately it does not seem to be helping…please help. I can’t bear to see him so exhausted….

I have a CPAP machine and don’t use it cause I’m still tired after using it. It seems like I’m always making dumb mistakes on the job, I’m always feeling moody, I have no energy most of the time.

I get up at 3:30 on the weekdays and about 6 or 7 on the weekends. When I get enough sleep on the weekend I feel better, but then come Sunday night I toss and turn, sometimes the family keeps me awake when trying to sleep. I try to go to sleep around 8:30 at night but sometimes can’t.

I’ve also lived with depression most of my life and take anti depressants for about 5 years now. I’m really tired of this lifestyle and really want answers. Does anyone have this problem or know of anyone that does and is a constant struggle? Could I get disabiliy for this? Is there a doctor in the house? LOL.

I have tried using a CPAP machine on him, but when i wake up he is always just chewing on the mask. i tried adding paper to the sides to make it more for a snout and not for a nose. How can i get him to understand this is best for him and not a really expensive chew toy. also he snores and I have considered putting him down if he snores again. Thank you.

I have a CPA because I have Central sleep apnea. For some reason unknown I just stop breathing while I am sleeping.
I am take Lexapro before I go to bed. I was taking it in the morning but I was so sleepy during the day so I started taking it at night.
I use a CPAP MACHINE sorry

I need advice if anyone has these symptoms or knows someone who has experienced this. My husband moves his arms very vigorously through the night while sleeping. I call it "conducting" because that’s what it looks like. He moves his arms for about 30-60 seconds then stops and holds them straight up toward the ceiling. His arms then fall down and land on me. He does this for several hours in the night. I should also mention that he has severe sleep apnea (stopped breathing about 800 times in one night at the sleep lab.) He is unable to use his cpap machine. Anyway, from what I could find online about this, it sounds like periodic limb disorder. Does anyone know about this and can give advice about treatments, etc. Thanks!

I’m getting out of the army in early may (ETS), and I’m filing my VA disability claims (Sleep Apnea w/ CPAP machine & Hypersomnia), and I’m wondering how long it’s going to take for them to kick in? I’m having a lot of trouble finding a job and may be depending partly on that income.

I apparently only stop breathing when I dream, and really dont want a cpap machine, but think i have to get one. any suggestions or ideas?

i’ve had insomnia for little more then 6 months, wasn’t bad enough to get the cpap machine, well i came down with sinusitus about 5 days ago, and ever sence i’ve had trouble sleeping, like either i sleep a little or i dont at all.. dr’s perscribed me Zolpidem to sleep but that only let me sleep for a good 3-4 hours, they also perscribed me antibiotics Omixicilin for infection, and Prednisone for my asthma, wich the prednisone kinda made my breathing a little better so i thought i’d sleep a little better ( wich i kinda do but not a whole lot) and i’ve been taking that in the morning cause i know it can make you stay up. but i think this is causing anxiety too.. cause i kinda freak out that i cant sleep so i get all worried and stuff.. and i’m really tired i just want to sleep.. i’m getting a sleep study done soon so i can get a machine.. but i wanted to know what i could do mean time. it’s really starting to get to me.

Does anyone else have a serious sleep problem? The VA finally diagnoised me as having Sleep Apnea and I’m using a CPAP machine but my problem is still getting worse. My doctor keeps telling me that the CPAP machine will help my problem but I believe I have a more serious sleep disorder or some type of insomia. I see no changes in my sleep using this machine and I’m actually getting even worse sleep. I’ve only gotten about 10 days of good sleep since January and its seriously affecting my health.
It got so bad that I had to go on disability from work.
