I WAS DIAGNOSED IN 2001 WITH SLEEP APNEA AND RECEIVED A C PAP MACHINE. IT QUIT WORKING AND NOW THAT I AM RETIRED, JUST WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT GETTING ANOTHER C PAP MACHINE SO I CAN REST AND SLEEP AT NIGHT. THANKS
My husband has a lot of trouble sleeping, and nothing we try helps him. He has to get up at 5am, and he tries to go to bed early. But if he sleeps early, he falls asleep for a short time, then wakes up and can’t go back to sleep for the rest of the night. And he keeps waking up in the middle of the night and often he can’t go back to sleep then, either.
He has tried three different medications: Ambien, Lunesta, and Rosarum, and none have helped. He has sleep apnea and has tried using a c-pap machine, and couldn’t tolerate it.
He has lowered his caffeine intake, but can’t eliminate it completely because he can’t wake up otherwise (waking up at 5am every day and not ever getting enough sleep).
Can anyone give us some advice on how he can get enough sleep?
He has severe sleep apnea and uses a c pap machine nightly when he is home. I was wondering if once someone begins using one, will their body become dependent on it making the apnea worse when they are not using it? I’m asking because my dad travels back and forth to china every month and has admitted he does not use it on the plane! He also dozes off while watching tv and obviously doesn’t wear it then. I just worry about him.
I have sleep apnea and I sleep with a c-pap machine and and a humidifier nothing seems to work. What do you think I should do? I wake up in the morning throat is so dry that it takes a few hours for me to feel normal again. Anything you could do would be appreciated. Thank-you, dbolt55.
he removed buckle 7 days back because retina was firmly attached and by gods grace my vision is very good, now can i use c-pap machine i am suffering from sleep apnea and i was using this machine to sleep it regulates breathing.can this machine disturb my retina, because of its air pressure pl reply.
First of all I suffer from sleep-apnea, and I use a C-Pap machine. But my problem is I keep having vivid dreams every night I go to sleep. In my dreams I’m always engaged in some kind of physical activity like walking, running, swimming, climbing, working, and in the morning I wake up very exhausted. Is there some kind of remedy or treatment for this.
First of all, there are a couple of things to factor in… I have been battling depression ever since I can remember but it is not as bad as it used to be(I know this can make you tired). Also, I have moderate sleep apnea and have a c-pap machine but have not been able to use it successfully. I just can’t get used to it. I’ve had it for over 5 years, tried every different mask, herbal sedatives and everything you can imagine. I know the fact that I get poor sleep is a major contributor. I’ve tried mouth devices and the surgery is not an option, obviously making me feel helpless to treating it. I’ve been evaluated by countless doctors. Blood tests and cat-scans show that I don’t have a thyroid disorder. I have been given all kinds of herbal supplements that if taken regularly, prove to slightly improve my energy but not significantly. I’ve been on every wakefullness medication that hasn’t worked, even abused medications that weren’t meant for wakefullness like adderall, which makes me crazy and extremely irritable. They all make my body ache like a 90 year old(I’m 21). I have completely changed my diet, thinking that I might be allergic to gluten but that barely made a difference and I couldn’t afford it(I’m a college student, barely able to manage 2 classes). I’ve tried quick fixes to get through the day like strong ginseng tea but everything that gives me enough energy to get through the day also causes me to crash so hard that I can’t move for the next two days. Ironically, I think I’m allergic to caffeine(it causes throwing up and diarrhea). I practice every common thing that I know to improve energy-drinking a lot of water, vitamins known to improve vitality, exercise(when I can), even expensive shoes that provide special support, you name it. I had trouble sleeping and waking at the same time as the other kids in high school. I worked with disabilities to knock off my first hour class because I couldn’t stay awake in class, or even drive to school without nodding off but I could still function, have friends, and get through most of the day. It’s gotten worse since then. I’m in college and I can’t even make it to once-a-week, nighttime classes. I certainly can’t hold a job and extra things like hanging out with or even contacting friends is to physically exerting. I have a small window of time in each day of a couple hours where I am awake. It’s hard to go out to do things like grocery shop. If I can’t make it back in time, my mind slows down and I become incoherent. When this happens I have trouble making it home. For example, I’ll wake up in another city, my groceries spoiled because I fell asleep and missed my stop. It’s not just my body, it’s my mind. I can’t remember anything or organize my thoughts. Often I will miss things because I think I am in yesterday or tomorrow. My room and hands are covered in notes reminding me to do things like "take a shower, go to bank, eat dinner". Because I can’t sustain myself, I am paying for college in all loans and my mom(who is strapped for money and has other children to raise) is paying for all of this out of pocket and we have no insurance. She is constantly coming up with new things it could be and looking into new treatments that she can’t afford. I know that I have a duty to my mom and everyone pulling for me to keep trying but sometimes I wish that they would just stop. I am a passionate person and don’t want to be part of something I can’t participate in. Ideas?
I have had a sleep study and know that I have sleep apnea, I have tried a c pap machine and didn`t like it . Are there any other solutions to my problem?
I have Fibromyalgia, Sleep Apnea (which is being corrected by using a C-Pap machine at night. I also have chronic fatigue due to the fact that I never get refreshing sleep. No matter how poorly or how well I feel that I sleep, I never feel rested. I have had 3 sleep studies and the results are always the same. I definitely have Sleep Apnea with Alpha Wave intrusions. I have been on several medications to no avail. Now my new sleep specialist wants me to to try either Xyrem at night (actually the date rape drug) or Provigil during the day, which is a stimulant. I’m at my wits end. Both drugs have awful side effects and really scare me. I have Cardiomyopathy and the Provigil would be dangerous to my heart problem. The side effects of Xyrem are very scarey. I hope there is someone out there that can share their experiences with me. I am soooooooooooooooo tired. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. Help please!!!!!!!
i’ve just been diagnosed with sleep apnea and have used the c-pap machine for 2nights. i think it’s going to help, but i have a rash on the bridge of my nose and on my face where the mask sits. anyone else have this problem? any suggestions? i have washed the mask in mild soap and rinsed it well.
my mask fits over my nose only
I am only 25 yrs old and have sleep apnea, the obstructive form. I completed two sleep studies that have confirmed this but, medicaid will not pay for the c-pap machine b/c the score for my study reflect that it is not "severe" enough for them to pay. Now, I am using provigil as a "band-aid" its okay, but the side effects are causing me headaches and I take seasonique birth control pills, I was told there was a 5% chance of impregnation, which is low, but I still worry a little. My doctor’s office was suppose to put me on a list to get a "loaner" and/or "free" c-pap machine, but I was told yesterday that this will only be considered after I start regularly seeing the doctor while I am on the provigil and still maybe not until January, if then. I am suppose to graduate form college in may, I need this sleeping disoreder corrected asap, it is effecting my life horribly and my education. Thanks serious responses only.
Has anyone who’s served in OIF/OEF been diagnosed with sleep apnea since their return from deployment? My husband has been home a little over a year now and since his return I have not had a good nights sleep. He tosses and turns, kicks and sometimes punches all while in a deep sleep. I tell him about it the next morning and he remembers nothing. He sought help from the VA who diagnosed him with sleep apnea. He was given a C-Pap machine which does absolutely no good for the tossing and turning. Now his (National Guard) unit is getting ready to deploy again and he found out that several other soldiers were also diagnosed with sleep apnea since the last deployment.(all of them are flagged for the moment) Does this sound familiar to anyone? I would love to hear from any wives that might be dealing with this same type of situation. I refuse to sleep on the couch or in another bed. I waited a long time to be able to sleep next to him and I will not give that up. The lack of sleep I have had this past year is taking a big toll on my body and I’m not sure what to do at this point. Any ones advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank all!
my 9 year old was diagnosed with sleep apnea through a sleep test.. she goes on july 16th to have her tonsils removed and to make sure her adnoids haven’t grown back…. my question is does anyone else have a child around this age that has this and what have they done for your child to resolve the problem..they said that if she still stops breathing after the tonsils are out then they will probably give her a c-pap machine…does anyone have a child that has to use this?
she is not over weight she is actually right where her doctor wants her and i have asked them about the adhd and they say she has no behavior problems
My husband has sleep apnea, and he has to use a c-pap (machine) at night before going to sleep.
I’m a nurse, so I’m well aware what sleep apnea is, what causes it, and what the treatments are.
My problem is that my best friend (age 53) has SEVERE sleep apnea, he goes for 30-45 seconds without breathing (while asleep). Its affecting his mood, his lack of feeling rested during the day, his extremities turn pale and/or gray while he sleeps, and one of these days I’m afraid I’m going to find him dead in his apartment.
He has seen a doctor, he’s had multiple sleep studies done, he even owns a C-Pap machine (which he refuses to use).
He had a heart attack 3 years ago, and had cardiac cath with 3 stents placed, and I’m certain that the sleep apnea is doing much additional damage to his already damaged heart.
I’ve BEGGED him to see a doctor, he claims that "all the bloodwork comes back normal", and his yearly stress test results are always "within normal limits". Still, I worry for his life, he is my BEST FRIEND, and I don’t know what else to do. I’ve slept over many times, watching him sleep, and when his breathing stops, I often wonder if it’ll start again, I count the seconds, and breathe a sigh of relief when he gasps for another breath.
He’s almost 100 lbs overweight, a former smoker, and bipolar.
I can’t use a C-pap machine. I sleep on my side. Does anyone else have this problem?

Anyone that has sleep apnea and is using a c-pap machine. Have you had better sleep? Are there tips that you did to get use to your mask? I have been using my c-pap for almost a year and still feel very sleepy when I get up in the morning. I don’t know if this is normal or is there other issues. Is there people that have noticed this with their sleep as well?
my wife is on a C-PAP machine and 2 liters of O2 but she still stops breathing,i lisens to breathing ever night don’t get much sleep. How is Sleep Apnea treated?
If she is only using the nasal C-PAP, she needs the FULL mask. If she IS using the full mask, then her C-PAP machine needs to be adjusted to be more forceful to keep the upper palette of the mouth from blocking the airway. If this doesn’t help, there are minor surgeries that are done on the upper palette that will take care of this problem. I suggest that she see the doctor that prescribed her C-PAP with these questions. However, I would get another opinion and another sleep study somewhere else if at all possible because I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea at one hospital, but another hospital told me that I didn’t have sleep apnea at all. I’m still waiting for the results of my last study to tell me what my sleep abnormalities are since they don’t think that it’s sleep apnea. Good luck. I hope this helps. If not, ask more – I’ll be watching just in case.
Al
she has the full face mask
The apnea diagnosis is so slight that I do not require treatment with a C-PAP machine. I’m surprised that I’ve been declined. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I assume she has had a sleep study done on her. if the doctor recommended c-pap or what I use bi-pap, doesn’t do the trick, you should ask if surgery is an option.
can’t have surgery? and she is due for her next sleep study.last one 3 years ago.
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 12 years ago. I had the uvulaplasty surgery twice and have recently noticed that it’s still getting worse. I don’t have health insurance now and I was wondering if there was anywhere out there to get a C-PAP machine at a discounted rate. Does anyone know of anything?
My husband snores really loud, enough so that eight months ago, he started sleeping on the couch and went to the doctor where he underwent a sleep study to find that he had severe sleep apnea. Now, he refuses to use the c-pap machine because he says it makes him feel like he’s suffocating. There’s nothing wrong with the machine and he’s tried different masks. He refuses to even try to get use to it. He wants to sleep in the same bed with me again but I can’t handle the snoring and think that a better solution would be for me to move into the guest room. He says it’s ridiculous for us to have separate bedrooms. I don’t see a problem with it and frankly, if he felt that strongly about it, he’d get used to the c-pap machine. We’ve already been sleeping separately for eight months so why’s he bent out of shape about sleeping in the bedroom while I sleep in the guest room? Can anyone help me understand this?
We are still intimate – sleeping separately hasn’t changed our sex drive. So is perceived intimacy that much more important than a good night’s sleep? I’m sure after a couple of weeks being up all night because of his snoring, I’ll be the "cheerful" person he wants to be intimate with. I think I’m being realistic with this.
I can’t use earplugs because I have to listen for my kids. I have a toddler and an infant. I can’t take the chance of not hearing them at night.
And second, who said I wasn’t supportive? If anything, it’s him who doesn’t want to deal with it. I’ve supported him plenty but ultimately the best support in the world isn’t going to help someone that doesn’t want to help themselves. No need for hateful remarks.
Same goes for medication. I can’t take sleeping pills (I really shouldn’t feel that I have to anyway; I don’t have sleeping problems) because I don’t want to be drugged up in the middle of the night when my baby starts crying.
My sister has sleep apnea and must wear a c-pap machine. She wants to know how to properly clean the plastic hose and fittings without harming the accessories. She believes that dawn detergent would not be harmful but not really sure about the best solution. Please advise. Thank you in advance.
I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea recently; I was told that my oxygen level drops to around 67% while I’m sleeping. Then was told how dangerous it was and told I needed to start using the C-PAP machine. Right now, I’m in waiting mode for the machine. In the meantime, my feet keep falling asleep and my fingers have gone numb. Some days are worse than others…. And sometimes my fingers really hurt. This is probably from the lack of oxygen, I’m sure. I’m also having the heart palpitations…..and other symptoms. Waiting on the red tape is getting on my last nerve. Especially after being told that it was urgent that I get on the machine right away.
Is anyone else going through this? It's so hard to take care of things —including and especially the medical stuff—-when I'm so tired and sleepy all of the time. I just want to sleep!!
BTW, it's been 2 weeks today, since I saw the Dr and she told me how URGENT things were. I am STILL WAITING. Sometimes I wonder if I shouldn't go to the hospital ER.
Well, I contacted the folks that do the sleep studies and they've scheduled me for a second sleep study….for this coming Sunday. So, at least SOMETHING is happening. It's hard being sick all of the time and then having to act as your own advocate. I hope I get this oxygen machine soon.
