So my dr wants to do a “sleep study” on me ~ Thinks I might have sleep apnea?
Is this a real legitimate and necessary test? What if it comes back confirming I do have apnea? Is wearing a mask really going to make me better? Is my quality of life really going to improve? Or is this all just a scam that is just going to cost me money? I’m wary.

It is a very necessary test. One thing that happens when you have apnea is you stop breathing in your sleep. This cuts down your oxygen levels. I moderate 3 support groups for sleep disorders. if you use a CPAP mask, it forces oxygen into you, and you feel much more refreshed after sleeping. I bet you have daytime sleepiness, and morning headaches. If you don’t, you will.
From what I’ve heard, sleep apnea isn’t something to mess around with. It’s not a scam. Untreated apnea could significantly shorten your life. Good luck.
The test is necessary to determine how bad the apnea is and to see if you need to use a CPAP machine while you sleep. Milder cases of apnea can be dealt with in other ways. Sometimes losing weight will lessen the severity of sleep apnea. the sleep study can also determine whether you have apnea or another disorder, loke narcolepsy.
