Sleep Apnea sufferers…..?

   Nope, sleep apnea has nothing to do with Diabetes. Sleep apnea is a problem of airway obstruction. It can exacerbate Diabetes, because the apneaic person doesn’t get the rest he needs and cannot metabolize at maximum efficiency. Your dad needs to get a sleep study done, and perhaps be fitted for a cpap (continuous positive airway pressure) machine to assist him in breathing when asleep.

   no, my mom has it. and she doesn’t have diabetes, she has to have oxygen all of the time though and sleeps with a breathing machine. The apnea causes other problems as well as it being very hard on your heart and other organs if it goes un-checked.

   No, it’s not from diabetes. Usually, it is more prevalent in people who are overweight, but is not limited to that category. It can be dangerous, though. He should do a sleep study and get treatment for it, especially if it is a severe case.

   Sleep apnea and diabetes can occur independently of one another. I think it has to be genetic, because my daughter’s father suffers from it, as does his father, and until either of them hit 300+ pounds, they did not have diabetes along with it. The weight increased the volume of the dying-in-my-sleep sounds, but the apnea was already there.
