Sleep Apnea….please help?
I was recently diagnosed with “severe sleep apnea”. I do not snore, nor toss and turn at night. I don’t have asthma. The doctor said that I stop breathing very frequently and wants me to sleep with a cpap machine. I’m not over weight, and I’m healthy. However, I do have HUGE tonsils. I’m wondering if getting them removed will help. I do actually have a consultation with a throat doctor in a few days, but I’m just wondering if it will help. Also, I initially went to the doctor because I get a head ache in the same spot of my head EVERYDAY. Does anybody have a GOOD explanation of why that is? Is it because of the sleep apnea? Also, is there anything that I can do to prevent having sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea will cause headaches, and it’s because your brain is not getting enough oxygen while you sleep. Since you are not overweight, then it is possible that the tonsils are causing the problem. Getting them removed might help, unless there is some other obstruction or defect that is causing it that is not visible. Of course, if you are real young, then it’s possible that your tonsils might grow back, that happens a lot when children get them removed. It might be something worth checking into though, because apnea is not good.
Since your apnea is not caused by obesity, then there really isn’t anything you can do to prevent having apnea, other than removing the tonsils. It occurs because your airways are obstructed. Until you get to a point where you are cured of sleep apnea, use the cpap machine, because if you just let it ride your headaches will start getting worse, and you will eventually start getting depressed and it will be hard to focus on any of your tasks. Believe me I know from experience. Lack of oxygen to the brain when you sleep, and lack of rest from constantly waking up (even when you don’t realize it) causes major implecations to you everyday life in the long run.
air constriction caused by your large/inflamed tonsils could explain the sleep apnea, and maybe even the headaches. The brain doesn’t like a lack of oxygen.
whenever i get a headache, i drink lots and lots of water. the feeling of being flushed out is like a placebo effect for me, getting rid of the headache.
Please get your tonsils removed, my daughter was diagnosed with sleep apnia and she almost died. she was cured after her tonils and adenoids were removed. Good luck
My dad suffers from sleep apnea and since he started using the CPAP he sleeps like never before ! try it and if you really dont like it try having the surgery. Ask your DR and see what he thinks first !
I love my CPAP. I sleep like a baby while I breathe in clean, filtered, humidified air. I never have nasal colds anymore because of the this wonderful air.
Hey, I might look funny with a mask on my face at night, but I get the BEST sleep now :) No more apnea :)
