Sleep Apnea?
What is sleep apnea? I am fourteen and am overweight. I sleep for 8 hours eveyday, but I’m always tired. I have frequent headaches and seem to be fatigued no matter how much I sleep. My family has a history of diabetes. My uncle sleeps a lot, but he stays awake for days at a time. Could diabetes cause this as well (I didn’t have it last time I went to my doc).

to know whether or not you have sleep apnea, you must undergo a sleep study. You must be 18 or older to have a sleep study done. There are several causes of sleep apnea, obesity is NOT one of them, but obesity contributes to a lot of other problems, diabetes being a real issue for you, especially with your family history. As you are overweight, suggest you lose that excess weight.
Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes you to stop breathing temporarily while sleeping. Your body has to wake up partially to start breathing again and this disrupts your sleep cycles and causes fatigue. Being overweight is a risk factor for sleep apnea, you should talk to a doctor. Sleep apnea can be diagnosed with sleep studies and managed with oxygen therapy.
You might want to discuss diabetes with them as well if you are worried about it.

Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing when your sleeping. It effects you in every way that you describled. I had sleep apnea when I was a kid and the doctor prescribed this pill to me that I took right before I went to bed and it worked. Im sorry I dont remember what it is called but your doctor will know. Good luck.
I AM A DIABETIC. WITH YOUR FAMILY HISTORY AND WEIGHT YOU SHOULD GO ON A DIABETIC DIET NOW, THIS WILL SERVE 2 PURPOSES:
1)YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT.
2)IT WILL AT LEAST POSTPONE THE ONSET OF DIABETES.
HOWEVER YOU SHOULD ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT YOUR CONDITIONS.
A condition called sleep apnea has been a hot issue in recent history as there was a lot of information on released of this health problem. Sleep apnea is characterized by the patient waking several times in the night often interrupting REM sleep when the body gets the most rest. People with this condition literally stop breathing in their sleep. The body wakes up enough to start breathing again. Even if the patient is not aware of the wake cycle, the body is and is forced to go through the day running on empty so to speak. Practicing good habits for stress reduction and seeking medical help with the problem are very necessary to treat or at least reduce this condition. While there can be a fact that whether chronic fatigue is caused by fibromyalgia or some other chronic fatigue syndrome, it’s a relief to know that there is help out there. It may take some time to get the right diagnosis, but the medical community is there to help.
