My son 19 months is having sleep apnea, wheezes, have abdominal retraction and uses all his accesories muscle?
when he breath when sleeping, but when he is not sleeping, he is ok. Is this a medical emergency to take him to the emergence room, i am so scare to see his condition worsen each day. I went to the emergency room and because the saw him walking around, the nurse told me we are going to spend more than four hours waiting because they have to prioritize their patients. What should i do since these symptoms happens only during the night? I also went to see our family doctor 2 days ago and he said they will book an appointment with a pediatrician but don’t know how long that will take. I’m worried keeping this child at home.
I am using humidifier and nomal saline drops, no change just getting worse by the day.

Try using a humidifier in the room where the child is sleeping and continue to observe him.
I have 2 children that had RSV as babies. 1 child was 5 weeks and the other was 14 months. This virus usualy occours during the same time of year as flu-winter months. My question is are you sure he is better when awake? Is he wheezing at all, does he not eat or drink as well, does he seem to take more effort with playing(taking frquent breaks). Did the emergency room listen to his lungs or do anything like put a pulse ox(little clap with blue light) on his finger or toe to see if he was getting enough oxygen to blood? If not where do you live, if you have to get an appointment for pediatrician thru family md? If no one has not done physical on your child and you see him having trouble breathing at night, then go find a hospital you trust and take him in evening when it would be his bedtime and they will have to observe this behavior. Don’t take a chance, use your gut instinct if you feel something is wrong than take him to ER.
