My father has sleep apnea, but no symptoms?
My father has sleep apnea and I’m really worried what will happen if he doesn’t get it checked. My mom already bugged him to get it checked but he again keeps denying to go to the doctors.
He doesn’t has serious symptoms, he doesn’t sweat alot, have heart burn, high cholesterol or has trouble breathing, nor has gain weight. I try to always keep him on a bicycle but riding with him but I’m still worried in th future.
Should I still strongly suggest him to see the doctors? He the age of 55.

Even people without all those other problems can have sleep apnea. I knew many people who were normal-weighted and had sleep apnea. The #1 symptom is tiredness during the day. a “checkup” consists of them watching him sleep for a night to see if he really does have sleep apnea. If he does, then they can give him a special mask to wear at night. If he does decide to take care of himself this way, he will experience a huge difference in how he feels during the day.
You won’t have symptoms sometimes but sleep
apnea can lead to stroke, high b/p,obesity,sexual
dysfunction. He needs a sleep study(an overnight
stay @ sleep clinic) to diagnose the severity of his
problem.
You are right to be concerned and worried about
your dad’s health. He needs to be more concerned
about it.
Definitely. My mom after many years of urging finally went and got herself checked out (around 55 as well). Thank God!
The most common symptoms of sleep apnea include loud snoring, restless sleep, and sleepiness during the daytime.
Snoring was the most noticeable symptom for my mom. She snored everytime she closed her eyes. Some of her snoring was actually her holding her breath. I can’t remember how many times a minute during the night she stopped breathing during the test, but the doctor said it was very significant and probably in the severe apnea. Now my mom uses a breathing machine at night. She used to always be tired, and would always fall asleep whenever she sat down to watch tv, read, go to bed, etc….within minutes. And it was because of the apnea that she was not getting enough sleep. Now she is so much better and more rested, the sleeping machine has really made a difference.
There are lots of complications from untreated sleep apnea like sleep deprivation, but the most serious complication can result in congestive heart failure. It also important for doctor’s to know about sleep apnea just like any other underlying conditions, as well as for emergencies, surgery (anaesthesia can affect sleep apnea). I know it’s his choice about his health and body, but I would say that it would be good for you to urge him to get it checked out for his health and everyone else’s peace of mind.
Good Luck
