My 9 year old has sleep apnea?
my 9 year old was diagnosed with sleep apnea through a sleep test.. she goes on july 16th to have her tonsils removed and to make sure her adnoids haven’t grown back…. my question is does anyone else have a child around this age that has this and what have they done for your child to resolve the problem..they said that if she still stops breathing after the tonsils are out then they will probably give her a c-pap machine…does anyone have a child that has to use this?
she is not over weight she is actually right where her doctor wants her and i have asked them about the adhd and they say she has no behavior problems

My son is now grown, but when he was 5 he snored terribly, he also had ear infection issues, anyway, he had his tonsils and adenoids taken out, and he never snored again. My husband who is a big man was diagnoses with sleep apnea and uses a cpap machine every night, it has helped him.
C-PAPs do work, it’s just getting people to use them! Most people complain they are uncomfortable. Of course they are, but if you use it religiously you get used to it. I think though I would be very wry that other issues aren’t going on before I accept that diagnosis on a 9yr old who isn’t overweight. Pulmonary issues should also be looked at. ADHD has nothing to do with sleep apnea. I think look at the whole picture before trying to pinpoint. Good luck.
