Is it normal to skip bloodwork & do a sleep study?
I went to a doctor this morning due to extreme fatigue for several months (not pregnant). She didn’t do any bloodwork to check iron, thyroid, sugar or other issues that cause fatigue. She didn’t even question diet or exercise. She just said for me to have a sleep study done and see her in 6 weeks. Is this normal? It seems like the simple solution was skipped in favor of a more costly & time consuming solution.
I saw the work order for the lab and she requested "female preventative" including cholesterol and she did order a CBC (whatever that is) but those were all she ordered.

In my experience, this isn’t the usual sequence of events. First there’s a physical exam, an interview that would include the questions you brought up and lab work to rule out organic causes or dietary deficiency. You can call your doctor and "suggest" a Complete Metabolic Panel, a CBC and TFTs prior to a sleep study. She might agree.
that sounds very odd, I am a phlebotomist, it seems to me that she should have checked your iron, thyroid and maybe even your B-12 levels first. I would see a different doctor for another opinion first.
