sleep apnea is very common. it can be very dangerous to your health. a night at the sleep clinic is best. chronic daytime sleepiness is one sign.
there is a book called "the promise of sleep" you can look into. he has a scale that says the faster you fall asleep, the more likely it is you have s/a.
overweight is a factor, losing can help.
and happy birthday.
It is a very common thing. The day time drowseiness is just part of the story. Often it is associated with hard-to-control blood pressure, heart arrhythmias, and changes in the way the heart functions…all pretty big deals.
You have the right body type for sleep apnea. There must have been something that got you doctor’s attention to have referred you. I make these referrals every week – often with people who complain of morning headache or have difficult blood pressure.
It is amazing to me how often people want to do everything BUT go to their sleep study…that is until they are diagnosed and treated…then they say things like, "I don’t think I could sleep without my sleep mask" and "I feel so much better now."
(One patient BET me that he did not have sleep apnea – he was so certain. During the study, they had to stop it in the middle of the night because he had it so bad and it would have been DANGEROUS to continue)
Go to the study. If you have a positive test get fitted for the mask. In the mean time, keep that weight loss program in mind. It is possible to reduce your weight and make the problem go away – in some cases.
Good luck.
