If you wear a monitor for sleep apnea and hold your breath will it record as not breathing?
Just curious, little one likes to play. So I wondered if he holds his breath on purpose during night will the monitor record as not breathing.
The test will be done at home on a portable monitor.

No It is very sophisticated. You have an EEG, EMG, EOG, EKG,flw sensors, a snore mike, belts and many other wires. the whole thing is also video taped.
If you hold your breath you, you will not have any flow but your muscles will be contracting. Also they can tell that you are awake by the EEG. They can tell if you are reading by the pattern on the eeg.
OSA or obstructive sleep apnea is no flow but there is an attempt to breath from the belt. The stop has to be a certain length.
CSA or central sleep apnea is no flow and no attemp to breath. This is very rare.
There is no fooling on the sleep test. Ask the tech, the weirdest thing they have every seen. You will hear some very interesting stories
let me make sure i understand, the monitor is for the child. how old is the child? if the child holds is breath the alarms will go off, and yes it will record. however to answer a person would need more information.

Almost all people who have sleep apnea snore – at least once during the night. However, not all people who snore have sleep apnea. It’s important to check for other sleep apnea symptoms to see if you have this medical condition.
The most common symptoms of sleep apnea are snoring and sleepiness during the day. Other symptoms include:
Restless tossing and turning during sleep.
Nighttime choking
Nighttime sweating
Mild to severe chest pain
Waking tired after sleep
Having problems with memory and concentration

Swelling of the legs
Undetected sleep apnea may increase your risk for hypertension, heart attack or stroke, as well as diabetes and work-related and driving accidents. Sleep apnea can also cause brain damage and result in shorter life span.
If sleep apnea is successfully treated and you start sleeping better, you will experience a huge boost of energy. Many people even report having less asthma, they are calmer, with more positive outlook; they have improved stamina and better functioning immune system. So if you suspect you or your partner is suffering with this condition you should speak to your doctor to discuss possible treatment plans.
