I wake up gasping for air a lot. Is it sleep apnea?
I get horrible sleep usually and end up peeing several times a night. Could I have sleep apnea?

It could very well be sleep apnea. The only way to know for sure is to either have a sleep study done or have someone watch you as you sleep. If some one is going to watch you sleep, Have them count the seconds between breaths. Generally when a person has sleep apnea the wake unrested and often with a headache. The headache is from the periods of apnea and lack of oxygen to the brain. Your normal blood / oxygen saturation is 98% to 100% when we sleep it normally drops a bit to 95% to 98% . When a person is experiencing apnic spells their oxygen sat can often drop as low as 50%. Hence the headaches, the gasping for air, the lethergy in the morning. Are you over weight, especially around the stomach or the neck? Do you snore? these things make you perdisposed to apnea. Try sleeping on several pillows under your head and chest, sorta in a reclined position. I f that helps then you probably have sleep apnea. Good news they have made great strides in home Cpap machines. they are not as cumbersome as they once were and they are quiet. Good luck.
Sounds like it, but I’m no doctor. You should go to your doctor a.s.a.p. That is not something to put off. If it is you’ll need a breathing machine.
Possibly, but the only way for sure is visiting a sleep apnea doctor and you should do it quickly.
Waking up with shortness of breath can be the sign of a serious problem (sleep apnea, heart disease, lung problems, etc). It’s definitely worth scheduling an appointment with your doctor to rule those conditions out.
Believe it er not this kinda sorta depends on the dreams you have. you could be narcotic(you have no recognition of the line dividing being asleep and awake. You’ll have disturbing dreams that can sometimes cause you to wake up sweating, or in your case gasping for air and urinating.)
…i hope i helped you!! XD
It sounds like you may need to explore diabetes along with the sleep apnea concern. You need to see an Ear Nose and Throat ENT doctor to have your airways checked for possible obstructions during sleep. You also need to see and Internist or GP to find out if diabetes is the culprit for your needing to pee so often at night. You might also have a chronic urinary tract infection.
Either or both are conditions which left untreated will negatively affect your health.
The treatment for apnea ranges from changing the inclination of your bed, to use of a positive airflow machine(CPAC), to surgery to open airways, and or a combination of those treatments.
Isn’t it wonderful to have someone with knowledge here to help you. Lady_lovinlife is excellent. I have been struggling with sleep apnea for a while now. I just recently took action about it. It is important that you do take immediate action because the lack of oxygen during apnea can cause brain damage, depending on how bad the disorder is.
I was just recently tested in a sleep study clinic. It is very simple and relaxing. Just a few wires glued all over you and you sleep while they watch and machines record information. My O2 sats dropped to 55% while I was sleeping. This happened both nights. I already had oxygen at home that I have been using for some time but they didn’t put me on it there the first night, however they did the second night. As well they put the c-pap on me the second night. I guess I did OK with it because I slept.
I just seen my doctor and he said that they will be calling me about setting the machine up at home and he told me that I would feel so much better.
I did not associate my headaches with the sleep apnea. I get these awful headaches. I thought they were from my nasal canula resting on my sinuses. I am looking forward now to the headaches being gone I guess, hooray, according to Lady_lovinlife.
Get to the doc and get it checked. God bless you.
