I took a sleep study ad was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and hypoxemia?
Well, anyways my doctor has me on a oxygen macine with the nose cannulla, and sleep with it at night, the first night I did the oxymonitor test which checks my blood oxygen levels with the machine on and they got down to 53. Well she is going to have me do the oxymonitor test again tonight without the machine, and see how low my levels get to. Does anyone know what other tests she will do from there if my levels are way off again? I believe she will probably have another sleep study done because the last one I had from a previous doctor who did nothing, that’s why I changed, so I’m thinking she might have her own done, but what would she after this? What could possible be wrong with me if my levels are this low at night, they are fine during the day, just when I sleep. Please give me suggestions on what you think.

So do you or do you not have sleep apnea? You did not mention whether or not you use a CPAP machine. They have capability of having oxygen attached to them. Sounds like you need to start all over with this and have an adequate sleep study. Get the results, question the pulmonary doctor and know what the test showed. Your oxygen level is obviously too low. If you have sleep apnea and stop breathing during the night (which is the problem that causes apnea), then that would account for part of why the oxygen levels are too low. Don’t mess around. Go see your internist, discuss this and get a referral to a different sleep clinic.
I don’t know too much about it except that if you are overweight you might be able to solve the problem by dieting. If you’re in the healthy weight range the mild sleep apnea can go away.
you may just not be breathing properly at night. maybe a CPAP machine is next in line to force air into your lungs when youre not breathing right.
My best answer for your question is maby you have sleep apnea and just dont relize it. That means when your sleeping you quit breathing for a few sec at a time. which could cause a loss of oxygen to your blood. I would suggest to her the possibility of sleep apnea and see what test she would do.
I suffer from sleeping Apnoea and have made a slide show to explain it may be found at
