hypoxemia and mild sleep apnea?
Well, anyways my doctor has me on a oxygen macine with the nose cannulla, and sleep with it at night, the first night I did the oxymonitor test which checks my blood oxygen levels with the machine on and they got down to 53. Well she is going to have me do the oxymonitor test again tonight without the machine, and see how low my levels get to. Does anyone know what other tests she will do from there if my levels are way off again? I believe she will probably have another sleep study done because the last one I had from a previous doctor who did nothing, that’s why I changed, so I’m thinking she might have her own done, but what would she after this? What could possible be wrong with me if my levels are this low at night, they are fine during the day, just when I sleep. Please give me suggestions on what you think.

Hypoxemia and mild sleep Apnea?
Hypoxemia (or hypoxemias) is an abnormal deficiency in the concentration of oxygen in arterial blood. A frequent error is made when the term is used to describe poor tissue diffusion as in hypoxia. It is possible to have a low oxygen content but a high PO2 in arterial blood so incorrect use can lead to confusion.
Hypoxemia is different from hypoxia, which is abnormally low oxygen availability to the body or an individual tissue or organ. The type of hypoxia that is caused by hypoxemia is referred to as ”hypoxemic hypoxia”. Because of the frequent incorrect use of hypoxemia, this is sometimes erroneously stated as ”hypoxic hypoxia”.
Obstructive sleep apnea means you have short pauses in your breathing when you sleep. These breathing pauses – called apneas or apnea events – last for 10 to 30 seconds, maybe longer. People with obstructive sleep apnea can stop breathing dozens or hundreds of times each night.Obstructive sleep apnea (also called OSA or obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome) stops you from having the restful sleep you need to stay healthy. If it’s not treated, sleep apnea can lead to major health problems, accidents, and early death.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the best treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. With CPAP treatment, you wear a special mask attached to a CPAP machine. The CPAP machine blows a steady stream of air through the mask, into your nose and down your throat (airway). The stream of air creates pressure, which holds the tissue in your airway open. This stops your airways from collapsing. Your airway stays open all night, so you can breathe properly all night. Be patient and wait for the oxymonitor test results.
I suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and I use the CPAP machine when I sleep.
Take care as always!
You probably have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Another test if not yet done is to see your sleep pattern. OSA is caused by overweight or when the tongue and throat muscle become sloppy as we age. It’s not an uncommon condition after the age of 35. The best treatment available now is not operation, but to wear a mask to sleep at night which provides positive pressure to your airway constantly to open it up to prevent obstruction. Confirm the diagnosis first before thinking about treatment. Cheers my friend.
