How can I tell if I have sleep apnea?
I have mentioned to my doctor that lately I have been feeling extremely fatigued during the day. I go to bed about 8 PM and usually go right to sleep and wake up about 2 AM. I 90% of the time I wake up on my right side of face down with my head to the right. However, I get the impression that I wake up for brief, but frequent episodes during the night. On weekends and holidays I usually sleep 12 to 14 hours a night and sometimes even take naps during the day. I never feel as if I get enough sleep. All routine medical tests for what could possible cause fatigue such as potassium, hemoglobin and thyroid function, have all been within normal parameters. The only other thing I though of that might be causing it is a sleep disorder. When I mentioned this to my doctor, she just phoo-phooed that idea. I live alone, so there’s no one to tell me if I snore or have episodes of apnea. How could I tell otherwise?

First off, the doctor is pretty incompetent if she doesn’t try to find out what is wrong with you and doesn’t support her patients with their concerns. And, furthermore, the doctor is not considering that sleep apnea is a common and treatable condition and you need to be tested to know if you have it!!! A sleep disorder test is done by a doctor who specializes in the tests and they do a sleep study to monitor your sleeping patterns and how many times you wake up, etc. It’s a very common problem and a pretty serious condition that can cause further issues down the road. Get another doctor!
if you can sleep 12-14 hours straight then you don’t have sleep apnea
do you have a normal ritual before you go to bed. i clean a little and then read for 30 min.
it doesn’t sound like sleep apnea however there is a condition people get where they wake up within 15 minutes or so same time each night,it is called insomnia depressive order.caused from stress usually, but can be from the toxins in the food we eat and the environment.
my dad has sleep apnea .. most common signs are if you stop breathing at night for long periods of time (i used to have to wake my dad up cuz i thought he had quit breathing acouple times) when you drive for long periods of time you fall asleep at the wheel ( once again my dad did this many times… he was almost hit by a semi because of it) what my dad did was went in the hospital and they did a sleep study test on him … where you stay there over night and they have machines hooked up to you monitoring your oxygen level (the nurse had to wake him at least 5 times that night because he had stopped breathing for several minutes at a time) if you do have sleep apnea it is very noticable .. you may also want to look into to see if you are annemic … i was annemic when i was younger i constanlty slept and didnt have any energy (caused by low iron because i wasnt eating enough meat)
i hope this helps you
