Do you have sleep apnea? How have you delt with it? Is it expensive to treat?
I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea. I'm getting a study done next month, but all the symptoms are there. I'm scared it's going to cost me a ton to treat it. Does insurance cover CPAP machines? If so, how much usually? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. I so desperately wish for a good night's sleep.
Sorry.. spelled dealt wrong.

I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. While I knew that I snored, I didn't know that I had times that I stopped breathing. I hae had my cpap machine for about 4 weeks and am very pleased with the improvement I've made.
The first night in the lab they study how you sleep. Then if you do stop breathing while asleep, you will go back for a second night and try out a cpap machine. They control it remotely. Then they examine the results and if you need it, prescribe a cpap machine for you.
That you have a PPO is a good thing. Call Blue Cross or look at their website and ask what your coverage is for Durable Medical Equipment. PPO coverage tends to pay for more than the standard plans.
Over on Yahoo Groups, you may wish to check out the groups for cpap users and sleep apnea. It helps to have the support of folks who share your concerns. Best Wishes.
The first night of sleep study is to find out how you sleep, how long you sleep, if you deep sleep, how long it takes to fall asleep….The questionaire was lengthy but I made it through the two nights.
CPAP machine is great if you use it. It will not do you any good to let it set. Please, when contacting your provider make sure it is understood that if anything happens you want replacement parts pronto.
Call your provider and find out how much they will contribute because there is a sleep study charge and the machine plus accessories. Hopefully in due time you will be sleeping like you used to.
Oh, CPAP organization may have refurbished machines…
Call your insurance company and talk to them about coverage. They will give you all the information you need. Also talk with the clinic where you are having the study. They will provide you with the costs.
I have every sympethy for you. My husband had suffered with it probably all of his life and didn't know. I eventually alerted him to the fact because I suffered with the noise I used to have to endure. He now has a sleep machine which has enabled him to sleep like a baby. He can take this machine anywhere in the world with him as long as there is an electric supply. He found it difficult at first but in the past six years, he has been able to stay awake throughout the day and has quality sleep. There are sleep clinics which will help you in the uk. Why don't you write to Wythenshawe Hospital, Southmorre Road, Manchester, England. I don't know where you live but I am sure you will be able to find someone there who might point you in the right direction. good luck.
