Sleep Apnea Symptoms Archives

The other night I woke up during sleep because I felt like I couldnt breathe. But I fell back asleep several minutes alter. I’m 25 years old Female and My weight is Average. Does this mean I have Sleep Apnea? I dont snore and I get tired sometimes during the day.
I live with my bf and he told me that I dont snore at all.
Is this life threatening?

8 years ago I stopped my menstral cycle, I took pills to make it come on, but they eventually stopped working, my OBGYN Specialist was not concerned about this at all. I started to develop Diabetes 2, Hemochromotosis, Sleep Apnea, and others, it started soon after they stopped and had progressively developed other problems to. I have had hormones checked, blood work to rule out menopause, bone density, ultra sounds, and nothing as to why they have stopped I am currently 42 yrs. old, it stopped when I was 34 yrs. old. Does anyone have an idea, because I do not want any other medical problems. Help!

I have just recently been diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. I am not a mouth breather. I like to wear my glasses at night and read until I get sleepy. I hate headpieces. What mask is best for people like me?

I’m tired most of the time even with plenty of sleep. My doctor is going to test me for sleep apnea. I can go some days without being tired. But more days extremely tired.
I have been going through this for more then a year.

Dr. says I may have sleep apnea. But I’m not overweight or even heavy; I don’t snore or drink alcohol or smoke or anything like that. But the second I lay dow, my breathing gets a little-just a little hard and when I’m aut to fall asleep, I stop breathing. I had asthma when Iwas a lot younger but those symptoms don’t resemble asthma either. What could be wrong?

Ok so I am an obesed man 292lbs 6ft3 and age 25, I have obstructive sleep apnea. I am wondering if I have hypertension as well or not or if I am borderlined hypertension. so here it goes:

My average blood pressure reading is 140/90 occasionaly I will experience nausea and throw up an average of maybe 4 days in a month, as well as once in a while I will have heartburn. I have heartburn generally 2xs a month. The last time I had my blood tested my bad chloestral was about 20 points too high.

Last year my granpa died of natural causes in his sleep (his heart stopped beating and he had some heart issues durin his life).

So do you think I might have hypertension? also my dr. never said I had it or not. so he recomended me to go on a diet, so I started weight watchers when I was 301.4 lbs and now I weigh today at 292.4.

any advice? and also I am in the process of quitting smoking.

Ive recently started having fatigue, high blood pressure, dizzy spells, waking up to throw up from a dead sleep, nausea spells during the day, lump in my throat near my thyroid(thryoid test came out ok), night sweats, waking up in the night with low grade fevers (94 degree), and I know I do suffer from sleep apnea sometimes. What could it be? Im 23 female thin.

hi yahoo answers how should parents take care of the children and tell me in general…

Whats the recovery time and will there be scars like in my nose?

so from time to time i get this pressure in my head or tightness or something, and i get dizzy, unbalanced, and feel weird. it also causes stabbing pain that is not severe but mild and goes away then it comes back, and sometimes i get headaches that last 5-15 minutes or 5-10. like at 4 in the morning i wake up and have a bad headache but then it goes away and i go to sleep 2 min later, and i wake up feeling tired, but no headache. i sometimes feel vertigo, lightheaded, dizzy, and shaky but shaking very little and its my fingers and arms. i get bone pain from time to time and sometimes feel stiff and feeling paralyzed but when i hit, scratch myself i can feel it and i can also move. when i breath i hear a whistling sound high pitched and usually when i get bad i get shortened of breath too. my face hurts to but not bad and i get stiff in my jaw and hurts. oh and my forehead hurts to but goes away like a second later. my neck feels stiff to and it hurts there to but it goes away maybe an hour later with all the other things my head. i watch a lot of tv and use computer really close. i sometimes get caught up on my speech and i forget recent things but not severely. i think i have sleep apnea, but not so sure because my mom said i would gasp for air

My husbands brother has "LVH" and had a heart attack at the age of 17..still living (thank goodness), but his dr. has told him he has the heart of an 80 yr old. He is 35. My husband was dx with HBP yesterday, 142/100, and put on bp med. He has been complaining of not feeling good, tired, sleeping, irritable, shortness of breath, sweating (excessively), right chest area and arm hurting (says it feels as if his joints are hurting), etc. Yesterday he had alot of fluid build up, his face was swollen and almost had a gray color to his skin. That is what led to the dr. visit. His blood wk came back today normal. He has recently been dx with "sleep apnea" (his brother has that too).
He has been on a variety of meds–paxil, paxil xr, effexor and now cymbalta 60mg daily, for the past 6 years. Not really sure if he needs this med, but can not get off of. His md put him on adderall then ritalin, for being tired and sleepy. Anyone have any suggestions? Is it possible he may have "LVH"?

I had a sleep study done this weekend. I thought I would sleep well but I didn’t. I think I got about 2 hrs worth of sleep total (no clocks in the room).
Most of the time I laid there pretending to be asleep in hopes of falling asleep.

1. Did I get a sufficient amt of sleep for the test?
2. Can they tell when I was actually asleep v. attempting to go to sleep?
3. How does scoring work?

Any links would be great.
I’m having a hard time finding forums online or even websites that aren’t from sleep study clinics…

Thanks!

I have the AutoPAP which I will use forever as I’ve been told. I also have high blood pressure which requires medication and is not within the ranges in AR 40-501. Am I going to be taken off scholarship?

It’s like sometimes my dreams become intertwine with real life. To the point that I can’t tell what’s real or not.
My dreams are sometimes vivid and seem like real life … I don’t think it’s mental.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 3 years ago out of the clear blue sky. I was 38 years old and never had any major health problems. From what I read it is hereditary but no one in my family has this. I hear it could lead to stroke, heart attack, etc. How in the world could such a disease just come out of the clear blue sky!!!! I am totally confused and need to know how to CURE this disease!!!!!!!!!

We’ve been treating my son for ADHD for several years and have had problems with the side effects of meds. He’s now on Strattera but it didn’t seem to be helping this school year. So we’ve increased the dose twice (he did have a growing spurt last summer – he’s 14). This still isn’t helping. Well, in going over my symptoms related to possible sleep apnea with the doctor, I had an "ah-ha" moment that my son has the same symptoms. Low and behold he does have a disorder. However it hasn’t yet been diagnosed with a sleep study (coming up next week).

So I just want to put a bug in parents’ ears that if your child is being treated for ADHD and the meds are not working, perhaps you want to speak to your doctor about the possibility of a sleeping disorder.

But for my question…. Has anybody else experienced a child at school who absolutely will not do his work and found out a sleeping disorder was the cause? Please tell me about your story and if treating the disorder helped your child do better in school.
Yes, seeing an ENT and removal of tonsils and/or adenoids is the expected treatment. Thanks for responses!
I’m agreeing that sleeping disorders should be looked into before giving drugs for ADHD. I wish someone would have asked if my son snored years ago!
Thanks for all responses…hard to choose!

With not being able to sleep soundly through the night for some time, I’m thinking I might have sleep apnea. I understand there are tests for such conditions and an air mask that one can wear at night to improve breathing.

Now, I’ve seen pictures of such masks and these do not look at all comfortable … you’ve got a band that clamps around your forehead and a cover for your nose with an attached vaccum-type hose.

Has anybody either worn one of these contraptions or known someone who has? Are they custom-fitted? Does one get used to such a mask quickly? Does the accompanying air pump rattle and shake during operation and keep you awake?

Thanx …

I also have anxiety problems and I take zoloft. I wonder if that affects my sleeping. My father also has VERY bad sleep apnea. when the doctors watched him sleep he woke up 600 times and almost went into cardiac arrest twice. My symptoms are: staying awake at night, feeling of butterflies in my stomach, extreme sleepiness in the mornings, horrible and weird dreams, headaches often, getting flushed during the day, alot of other stuff! ahhh and i have really bad hearing. HELP!

Ear nose and throat? Is there another name for ear nose and throat doctor? They don’t have any listed under my insurance plan.
The GP refuses to give us an appointment. She said it sounds like nothing by my description. I’d like to punch her in the face. I’m gonna go to straight to the specialist. Otolaryngologists is on the list, thanks.
No I don’t know if it’s apnea or not. I’m guessing based on what I have read. It also could be asthma. Because the GP is not helping me figure it out, I’m going straight to the specialist.
I brought him to my chiropractor 2 days ago, and he said it’s just really bad sinuses and allergies. He gave him an adjustment and he’s already breathing better. So far he has done last night, through the night without trouble (I stayed awake watching him) and today’s nap and so far tonight, he’s been breathing.
Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. If it happens again, I’ll talk to an ENT, but so far, it’s looking good. I did make an appointment with the allergist to check on it.

I get dizziness, short term memory loss, disorganization and fatigue daily. I’m trying to figure out what is going on with me. I exercise regularly- except lately I have been feeling really run down, I eat well, drink water, take multi-vitamins, get enough rest, etc. When I get enough rest and I have slept well, I can still fall asleep easily! Like in a meeting at work, or while driving even, and I don’t snore or have sleep apnea. What the heck is wrong with me? I’m 5’3 and 150lbs, so I am not obese. Is it Anemia or low iron possibly?
if you tell me to ask a doctor right now, I won’t because I can’t afford a non-insurance doctor’s visit.
I should add… I had a partial thyroidectomy 3 years ago. I have had my thyroid and TSH levels tested recently. The results came back with normal level, 3.1–3.4 the last results I had just last year.
27 not pregnant/not possible.
I am not all that stressed, but I think I fight depression. The depression got better when I started exercising and I am to the point where I can run 5 miles three times a week, and bicycle 12 miles three times a week, also weight-lifting. I am just so sick of feeling like an air-head. lol
I had mono last June of 07, can’t be mono, I know what that feels like.
