Can my Dad die from sleep apnea?
Well, i dont really much about it, but my mom just recently left to visit her grandmother, and my dad has sleep apnea. she told me to sleep with him to make sure he is alright, and im 16 so doing so would be kind of awkward, and i move around alot when im trying to sleep, so i wouldnt want to prevent him from falling asleep. so can anything bad happen if my dad isnt being watched when he sleeps? he has a CPAP machine btw

Death in sleep apnea may appear in case you don’t treat yourself for a long period of time. The severity of sleep apnea has an important role to know if the sleep disorder is life threatening .
Untreated, sleep apnea can be progressive, worsening in time, until it presents a real threat to life.
But your father has a treatment with CPAP. And this is good news.
But, I think I know why your mother told you to watch your father’s sleep.
There are some patients with sleep apnea who can’t tolerate CPAP. They take off the mask in sleep, because they are not used to have an object on their face (the mask) or is uncomfortable.
If your father takes off his mask, then he’s in danger.
sleep apnea can result in death YES
yep but not with a cpap machine..you know they have little cards in them and the hopsital can tell the amount of air he needs
I have had it for 25 years before i got a cpap and would wake up chocking and i never died
with a cpap he is home free
that is why he has one
Yes, people with sleep apnea stop breathing in their sleep.
i suffer with sleep apnea and yes you can die from it but its unlikely
A CPAP machine SHOULD take care of his sleep apnea…that is what it is for!
As long as he’s being monitored by a doctor on a regular basis, and his CPAP machine is working properly and set on the correct settings…this should take care of his apnea.
Sleep apnea can cause very serious health problems IF IT IS UNTREATED…but in your dad’s case…he’s being treated. So the risk is greatly reduced or eliminated altogether!
I don’t think it’s necessary for you to sleep in the same bed or even ROOM for that matter. I think your mom is being overly cautious/concerned.
Possible, but not very likely. The body usually wakes itself up when the apnea gets too serious.
Since you’re 16, the same age as me, sleeping together with your father would indeed be awkward. But you should instead, if you care enough for your father, stay up while he sleeps and check in on him every now and then.
As long as your dad is using his CPAP and it is set correctly then he should be o’k.
Sleep Apnea results in frequent drops in blood oxygen levels during the Apnea and it is the impact of this on our body that is the main risk. The associated reduced sleep quality caused by the apnea events triggers the release of stress hormones that are the hidden risk created by sleep apnea. These hormones raise the heart rate and increase the risk of high blood pressure and other cardiovascular diseases and associated problems.
These can be the hidden killers when Sleep Apnea is not treated.
