Army sleep apnea question?
I am stop lossed and undergoing a medical board for back pain. During the process i was also diagnosed with sleep apnea. The army pulmonolgist told me today that its recommended that i use a CPAP machine to sleep at night. He told me that it would make my MEB take longer if i accept the treatment by using the CPAP. And in turn could stay in becuase the cpap fixed my problem. What do i DO???Deny treatment so that my problem does not get better and get out. Or take the treatment and risk having to stay in….why do i have to choose between my health or getting out???

I use a Bi-Pap (like a CPAP) and it was the best thing I have done for my health. A Bi-Pap or CPAP machine does not cure sleep apnea, it helps you breath at night. You can not deploy with one. I do not believe you would remain in either way.
It will also not cure your back pain.
Use the machine. If they kick you out for health reasons, you get disability. I know a guy who gets disability because the Army "caused" his apnea. He is still in the NG.
Use the machine. By not doing so they could administratively determine that your condition is getting worse through your own willful neglect. In such a case the Secretary of the Army is left with only one path and that is to discharge you as unfit for further service and without compensable disability. The source below is the section of Federal law which applies.
Dude just for suggesting that you will deny treatment so your problem gets worse tells me you are dirt bag. I hope you get out as fast as possible and stop wasting tax payers money. So whatever you need to do, do it and do it quick!
Sleep apnea is debilitating, can cause injury and even kill you. Not taking treatment is foolish.
Some soldiers shoot themselves to get out of combat / military service. When they are discovered they are punished.
Instead of a gun…..you are thinking of using apnea just like that gun…..accepting injury and even possible death just to evade completing the contract you voluntarily signed…… makes one wonder about your back "injury"??
I broke my back twice serving my country. My left knee is shattered and I walk with a limp. I am in constant pain…..but I never failed to live up to my contract….. I hope they give you your discharge….. You do not deserve to be in the military with grown ups
