Are their any things you can do for sleep apnea, before any sleep study?
My son is having trouble with his sleeping and I believe it might be sleep apnea. We will get him a sleep study soon but he is struggling to sleep at night and at times even has seizures in his sleep. He is on seizure medication, but I am starting to believe it may be more because of the sleep apnea. Are their any things we can do to help him sleep better at night, before our sleep study. I am not talking about the machines, just some tricks of the trade that may make him sleep better and then my wife and I can sleep better. He is only 4 and has all the signs of sleep apnea. We will not know this though for a little while until the study. Any ideas?

Look up sleep hygiene tips to make sure he is practicing them first off. Second, keep him off his back. If he sleeps on his back, he’ll be more likely to stop breathing bc/ gravity will be putting more pressure on his airway. If he can’t stop sleeping on his back by himself, try putting rolled up socks or a couple of tennis balls into a long tube sock and tying it around his waist so that the balls are pressed against his back that way, it will be uncomfortable for him to sleep on his back and he’ll train himself to sleep on his side. If this sounds rediculous, the best thing to do is to keep his head and neck elevated (from the shoulders, so his chin is kept level away from his neck). either allow him to sleep in a reclining chair, or get a wedge pillow. This will help him breath better at night. Hope it helps!
make sure the head of his bed is elevated that is what they told my brother to do
see a good neurologist and there is medication that they can use provigil if indicated possibly
well i have sleep apnea & i have not found any tricks yet. i stop breathing in my sleep & doctor said i need to lose weight sleep apnea you dont get a nuf air in your lungs & that makes your heart swell whitch is not good. i am on oxygen any time i sleep. things i did to help was raise the head of my bed but the other thing is oxygen. it is common in overweight people. i hope this helps because you cant rest with it.
I hope your son is not overweight. I would also have tests done on his heart and everything. Overweight is mostly the cause. I would put blocks of wood on the front of his bed on each side therefore evelating it that will his throat from being blocked. This will help greatly. Look into the foods he eats. never eat a few hours before bedtime. These sieziers are frighting to me. I hope you are seeing the best neourogilist in the country. Has an MRI of the brain been conducted??? This should be done to see if ther are any abnormalities, it will be seen there. God Bless. One of the signs of sleep apthea is when the chest moves but the person is not actually breathing. I know this because my husband did this. It scared the you know what out of me. he snores too. Sometimes there is a throat problem that worsens this condition. I would sugest seeing a neuorologist and have a complete testing done of the whole body ear nose and throat. A university hospital is best. Evelate him like I mentioned eariler. It could help.I pray for you son. I would likwe to add that my husband had one of those sleep study tests and it was incorrect. He maybe slept a half hour and they put down 8 hours he slept. How can you sleep with all these wires and tape stuck to your face and hair? Myybe a 4 year old, maybe things changed, I don’t know. Don’t rely on that study. Seiziers an MRI of the brain! Good Luck. So Precious your child.
