Any ways to help asthma?
I’m looking for potential ways to help relieve asthma. I’m 23 years old, and was diagnosed as asthmatic when i was 8. It’s always been quite severe, i currently need to use 500 mg Seretide (purple inhaler) morning and night, and the Salamol (blue inhaler) whenever i need it, which is frequently. I’m also put onto various steroid courses a year and have been hospitalized multiple times.
Recently however my asthma has been getting worse still. I’m beginning to have attacks for the minimal of exertion, such as going shopping, or even going to the toilet at times, and earlier on today I was taken to the hospital after a particularly severe attack caused by the extremely strenuous activity of watching TV.
I’ve been to the doctor about it, but they refuse to give me anything stronger. I was told that it’s my own fault because I’m overweight and that I need to exercise, and while this is true (my BMI is 27), I really don’t think its a valid answer. I mean, 27 isn’t severely overweight, and how exactly is more exercise the solution if walking to the bathroom is causing me to keel over?
I need any possible solutions that may help me to quench this a bit. It’s not being caused by allergies, and I already use a CPAP mask at night (for sleep apnea). I just need the ability to breathe. Simple as that.

Unfortunately, your lungs have developed this way and you’ll just have to keep fighting. You’ve done very well towards maintaining a healthy environment. I think the next best thing you can do is try to exercise. Keep in mind the weather may wreak havoc on your asthma, causing flare-ups. You really don’t want to keep taking steroids, because in time, they’ll become less effective. You’ve got to keep in mind, there’s not much more that can be done, medically. All that exists is CPAP, steroids, inhalers, allergy treatments, and lifestyle changes, such as: diet, exercise, and smoking abstinence.
No doubt if you are on all these experiments, then your diet is severely controlled and monitored.
Sadly, home remedies really don’t help.
I have asthma, and from the age of 14-16 (17 now) I was severely depressed, I consider it more than a coincidence that when my depression started going, that my asthma really weakened.
