For the past few days, I haven’t been able to get much sleep because I wake up wheezing and gasping for air. It feels like my air passage has closed, and it normally takes an hour or so to get my breathing pattern back to normal. During the day, I don’t have any difficulties and I don’t appear to be ill. I’ve looked up sleep apnea, but I don’t have the symptoms… I don’t suffer from heartburn (well I have random chest pains, but never after eating), sore throat or nausea so I don’t think it’s gastroesophageal reflux (GER), although it does seem like it happens when I’m lying down. I’ve tried the Vicks rub but it doesn’t have any effect. I haven’t done anything odd recently, rather than watch Avatar the night before the symptoms started. Was the movie so good that it left me a breathless insomniac (haha joking) or could it still possibly be GER or is it something else? What can I do to stop it?

He has severe sleep apnea and uses a c pap machine nightly when he is home. I was wondering if once someone begins using one, will their body become dependent on it making the apnea worse when they are not using it? I’m asking because my dad travels back and forth to china every month and has admitted he does not use it on the plane! He also dozes off while watching tv and obviously doesn’t wear it then. I just worry about him.

Last year May I was diag. with bacterial vaginosis and treated with a dose of 3 pills at one time. (I also had an abnormal pap & colposcopy which came out negative.) I did not feel right and went back recently. I was diag. with vaginosis again and was given Flagyl for 7 days. I saw my regular MD for the past month for other symptoms, after a urine test said I had a UTI and gave me a dose of Cipro (3 pills/3 days.) I have finished this dosing and still 2 weeks later know that I am not right. I am going to go back t the Gyn again for a 4th treatment. Before the summer I have never had anything like this not even a yeast infection.

I have been going to my MD for other symptoms such has palpitations, high blood pressure (145/100), dizzy spells, nausea spells, fatigue, headaches, ear infections, flushing, periods of low body temp (94 deg) and low pulse, night sweats, sleep apnea and brown spots on my back. Now Im just nervous that the bacterial vaginosis could be a sign something else??

For a couple weeks now i have been having trouble sleeping just laying in bed until about 4.30 am.
When i do go to sleep i wake up crying with the pillow soaking and when i have sleepovers my friends say i shout people’s name out normally my friends. Why am i sleeping like this? It’s starting to take my toll on my school work.

I am reading up on sleep apnea and would like to hear some advice on what may be the best cpap macines on the market?

I also read that taking your tonsils out helps. Any GOOD info will help. HELP

Fist of all I would not have even know I had sleep apnea if I had not gone to the sleep study I never st oped breathing even on the sleep study test they just said durnig dream stage my breathing gets shallow. There are probably millions of people who have sleep apnea and don’t even have it know it and they have homeowners insurance, but because they did not go to a sleep study and get diagnosed with it they are allowed to have homeowners insurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I have been having some problems sleeping and the problem is I can’t find anything that fits my symptoms.

It’s like I have a combination of a couple of things, I have a lot of problems getting to sleep and usually spend hours lying in bed sometimes I just give up but then when I do get to sleep I will often sleep near twenty hours straight.

I am not depressed at all, I am overweight but do not suffer from sleep apnea and at this moment am not diabetic. Can anyone take any guesses?

I was just diagnosed and afraid to take the drug they recommended due to it influencing dopamine levels and potential for hallucinations and severe obsessions with gambling, sex, overeating, and shopping. there are lawsuits against the company for these life wrecking side effects.

I have been sleep deprived nearly 25 years and on bipap/cpap for 15 with little abatement of the many health effects. I am finanlly starting to get some of the errors made in treating sleep apnea corrected but it will be in vain if I can’t get the PLMD under control. I think they said I did it 175 times in less than 6 hours and weach time disrupts your sleep.

I have not been able to find much alternatively since my diagnosis three days ago. I was considering dopamine raising herbs..anything else? )it is sometimes treated similarly to restless leg syndrome although it is a different thing..involuntary and under sleep unlike restless leg which is when awake and asleep. Dopamine also is related to
Parkinson, another involuntary movement disorder. I am so scared of the medical drugs but also hanging on by a thread from severe sleep deprivation for so long.

Im not lazy, I just sleep at a different time of day. I have a home buisness that alows me to make my own time table. Its just like when I need my house worked on the guys act like I am weird.
yes , it is a real disorder i have been to the doctor. She wants me to go to a sleep clinic if I want to change it with light therapy.
It embarrassing cuz ppl think you r lazy . They do not understand, sometimes I just say I work nights. Its not a money issue, my hubby makes a good living and I make some on my own. i work on the house a lot too, do all the yard work and I paint and everything eles. PPl just dont get it when they come by and Iam asleep .

Sometimes it gets hard to breathe at night and it constantly wakes me up.

I have no clue, but it’s possible. Here’s a list of things people think I have.
-type 1 diabetes
-A.D.D
-sleep apnea

And now here are some symptoms others and myself have noticed I have.
-stress
-bad mood
-urinating frequently
-increased thirst (drinking lots of water lately)
-I’m always tired now
-I have bad memory during the day
-I sometimes wake up with sore throats
-every once in a while I get this like sour/sweet breath
-Some days I get really hungry, some days I barely eat anything
-I’ve been getting a lot of headaches lately ( I rarely got them before and no it’s not because theres been more noise)
-I have pretty bad anxiety
-I can rarely focus for a long time
-I always give up on things if I don’t them right the first time even though I know I should give up
-I get really frustrated when I try to do home work/school work or a lot of things
-I’m almost always worrying or nervous about something

Shall I go on?
I don’t know I think i’m just being a hypochondriac. What do you think?
In case this helps I just turned 15.

Thanks you for all the serious answers I got.

My husband has recently developed some sleep problems. He snores so loud I think the neighbors can hear him(no kidding). He wakes up every 1-2 hours and has trouble falling back asleep. He never feels rested. He has strange, vivid dreams that he actually acts out sometimes. He’s been tested for sleep apnea, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks in advance!

My husband is 27 years old and always tired. Here’s alittle background info:
He has sleep apnea, he is on Paxil 40mg daily for anxiety, he is also on 40mg of Priolsec daily. He uses his sleep apnea machine on and off and if he does use it normally its only for a few hours. My husband works from 5pm-10 pm, then goes to his second job from 10.30pm-3.30am. He gets in bed around 4/4.30am every day. He wakes up at 11.30am.,so about 7 hours of sleep. Heres the problem, he’s constantly tired and falling asleep, especially while watching TV on the couch. This past Sunday he slept through the night (his day off), woke up at 6.30 am with our 10 month old, and went back to bed at 9am until noon, then woke up. Then later that night he went to bed a 6 pm and I woke him up at 10pm to go to his night job. Is his schedule making any sense? :) It drives me CRAZY that he is always so tired. WHat do you think is causing this? He doesnt help around the house very much so thats no causing excessive tiredness… help!:)

I’ve been using a cpap machine for mild sleep apnea. It is turned up to 11, now I ask I thought the machine is supposed to help you sleep better so when you wake up you feel refreshed. Well, I still feel tried and not to energized. They did the tritation and said I was good at 10 so anyone know what I should do now?

How is a sleep disorder diagnosed and what are the signs necessary for you to take a sleeping pill?

I have about 3 years left on my contract.

I have thalasemia minor. Not sure if there is a relation, but when I work out, I constantly yawn. And after my work out, I have severe allergic reactions like a runny nose and I sneeze constantly. Even in the morning, just walking up stairs, I get the same symptoms without that asmthatic weeze. I’m 37 and wonder if it something with my heart. My resting heart rate is low=56. I sometime even wake in my sleep because of a lack of breath (like sleep apnea). So I’m wondering if it’s more than asthma.

I suffer from anxiety disorder and am in the middle of controlling it. I usually get dizzy, nausea and short of breath (on a bad day). Lately I have been feeling pretty alright still with short of breath but not so bad. Sometimes when I’m trying to fall asleep I seem to gasp for air, I don’t know if I am actually gasping or just waking my self up. This doesn’t happen every night (that I notice). I live in a basement with one window and think that maybe it might also be becasue it can get stuffy down here. I’ve been keeping the window open a crack (too cold to leave it wide open) and I find it hasn’t happened.
My doctor has requested a test that I put on my finger at night to test my oxygen levels, still waiting for the hospital to call me to pick up the equippment.
Do you think it is anxiety, apnea, or the stuffiness??
I have taken St. John’s Wort, it helped for a bit but then felt like it was doing nothing, I stopped taking it.

Last night I took a sleep study, and the doctor called me back and said I have mild sleep apnea, and he was more concerned with my low oxygen levels, so he is going to do a test from my home when I sleep to check my oxygen with a cpap machine while I sleep. He asked if I have lung or heart problems, and I don’t know if I do. Do you think my family practitioner will check into these areas? and what is wrong with low oxygen levels? I do have high blood pressure, usually 138/90. I am overweight also. He told me if I lose 20 to 25 lbs my sleep apnea would go away, but does that mean my low oxy levels will go away? I’m a little scared because I do find it hard to breathe at times. I can’t lay down straight because my breasts seem to weigh down on my heart. Also, does insurance let you keep the cpap machine or do you have to give it back after more tests? Just curious. When they let me try it on last night on my sleep study, i felt such relief because I could breathe so much better with it on. I am also being checked for diabetes, thyroid problems. When I had the things on my neck and head last night for sleep study it like made my neck hurt bad, is this normal? Someone give me some insight.
Also would low oxygen levels have anything to do with my thyroid?
