I have sleep apnea and just got a CPAP machine. Anyone else have one? I was just wondering what your machine is set for (mine is 13). I am going to use it tonight for the first time and wondered how it has worked for others. And how long did it take to get used to it. I have the nasal one, not the nose mask. What do you have?

I have a VERY VERY hard time waking my husband up in the morning,. He doesn’t hear the alarm, kids, dog, phone…ANYTHING. People keep telling him to go get tested for sleep apnea, now under certain circumstances I would understand why you may go get tested for that, but my husband has been like this ALL his life, ever sense he was little. I have heard some pretty funny stories about when he was little and wouldn’t wake up. So I don’t understand why he would have sleep apnea now when he has been like this all his life.

My husband was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea last year and has been trying to lose weight to help. He’s had no success. He started a construction job last march and has been eating better and has not lost one pound. We are trying to find out what could be causing the no weight loss after being working in such a labor intensive field..
Any ideas?

Treatment Options: Medication, etc.

my 2 month old snores during sleep. it sounds like a congested raspy snore. almost like she has lots of mucus in her chest. i ased her doctor and she said she was fine. but i looked up snoring on line and found that snoring is the #1 symptom for sleep apnea which could be deadly. do any of you have babies that snore and this is perfectly fine? or are familiar with sleep apnea and have any advice?

I’m going to get a sleep study (maybe a portable one), but our son is autistic so I can only imagine the horror it will be trying to put a cpap machine or other things attached to him for the study. Has anyone tried any less invasive items with success? I did just order some nasal sleep "openers" that are reusable. I see pillows etc….but he doesn’t really use a pillow consistently. I am hoping we don’t have to take out his tonsils/adenoids. We also don’t want to medicate. So if there is anything else that might help please list sources if possible. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration! :0)

see my dad has sleep apnea and hes tiered constantly and hes getting kinda sick over being unhealthy whhen he sleeps i mean im really worried cuz in the middle of the night my dad stoppes breathing for up to thirty seconds or more..

How does this issue/concept affect me as an individual(example of life experience)?

What importance might this concept/issue have to someone working in my chosen field?(a teacher)

What implications does this concept/issue have for the community/society?

I’ll appreciate this because this is for my final course.

Do all children who have sleep apnea experience daytime sleepiness? Or can a child have sleep apnea without that particular symptom?

I’m in the process of getting a machine, mask and everything. Can anyone give me any heads up on this subject before I go and buy ?

My thought on this possibly is: They have shown ppl losing very small amount of weight when they die(linking this possibly to the soul leaving the body) I want to know if the soul(if there is one) leaves the body in a dream state?

The problem has been going on for years but it got worst now that I work 2 jobs and I don’t sleep that much. I can hear myself snoring all night long and I feel like I don’t get enough rest because I am half awake I guess. Any ideas?

well I discovered on my own recently that I have a mild case of sleep apnea, but as far as I know, its only a problem when I lay on my back. Well my mom has the same problem and it’s only bad for her when she lays on her back too. But I was wondering what would be the best treatment for this? Position therapy and/or a mouth piece? I really need help with this because I have to convince my mom that both me and her should be seen for it and treated. Thank you!

I had a sleep study a week ago and found out that I have moderate sleep apnea. So last night I had another sleep study to find out what pressure I need to use on the cpap machine to fix my sleep apnea.
It was HORRIBLE!
They used the one that just goes in/under your nose. They said they used the lowest pressure possible.
It felt like a really strong flow of wind was forcing it’s way into my nose/throat all night, and I had to use a lot of effort and muscle to exhale. It was exhausting and scary. It felt like I was being pumped up like a balloon and was going to suffocate.
It also made me swallow a lot of air so I as burping and felt like I was going to throw up.
I don’t have any idea how long I actually slept. But I do know that I kept waking up in a panic feeling like someone was smothering me.
The tech kept tell me it was just a mental thing and I had to make a mental decision to not panic.
Yes the feeling like I was going to suffocate was a mental thing. I know that I wasn’t in any real danger.
But I don’t think that I imagined the pain and pressure on/in my nose, throat. And the strain I was putting on my lungs and torso trying to force exhale against the air flow.
Also, I’m only ever able to breathe out of one nostril at a time (just a generally congested person I guess, cuz it switches from one nostril to the other every day or so)
So the air flow was all going into my left nostril, which is currently stinging and throbbing in pain.
They ended up having to give me an ambien at like 3am or something to help me actually get to sleep.

Ugh….. it was seriously the worst night I’ve ever had.

What was/is your experience? Am I just overly sensitive? Did the tech/doc possibly not use the right equipment/ pressure? Should I even bother trying to get the doctor to prescribe me one?

OH and they didn’t offer any choice of sizes for the nose piece. I didn’t know there were different sizes till just now when I’ve been researching it.

I would consider myself very fit, I’m a triathlete, and workout vigorously on a daily basis, and follow a heathy eating diet.
But heres the kicker my mother has been diagnosed with sleep apnea about a year or 2 ago. Could sleep apnea be hereditary?

My symptoms random pain in the cheast while I’m sleeping, bad enough too wake me up(i.e. I’m a very heavy sleeper), and its been going on now(that I know of) for about 2 days.

Could I have sleep apnea???
Thx

I am scheduled for UPPP and tonsillectomy surgery in 3 months. I keep reading that these surgeries have a low success rate of curing apnea. Is there anyone who has had success with these procedures?

I was 4 months pregnant when I started experience "sleep apnea" symptoms. I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping desperately for air. My son is 17 months now and it happens maybe 2xs/month. I live in Florida and we had some major smoke inhalation about 2 weeks ago, but I sat down to relax after a long day and felt like I wasnt getting enough oxygen, to the point I had my husband almost call 911. We went to the doctor that night and he gave me breathing treatments and my new doc has been getting tests for me left and right. Chest x-rays, thyroid ultrasound and breathing tests. I also have trouble swallowing with these episodes. Last night I was having some difficulty again and my friend looked over at me when I was giving a gurgling sound with it and she said it was like I swallowed a walnut! Right in the bottom of the neck- the empty part, above the chest bone, she said it was like a huge growth. I wasnt laying back just trying to breath normal, and Im a woman….
