My dad is very stubborn. I am so sure he has sleep apnea because I looked up the symptoms and he pretty much matches all of them. Loud snoring, long pauses in his breathing (20-30 seconds), extreme sleepiness throughout the day, irritability, fatigue, mood changes, and headaches. Sleep apnea can cause serious problems in one’s life and I am so scared for my father. When ever we go out to a hotel on vacation and have to sleep in the same room, I can hear the pauses in his breathing and it freaks me out because I am afraid he is going to die or something. I asked him why he doesn’t go to the doctor so he can get treatment, but he insisted that everything was okay. My dad hates admitting he is wrong. How can I convince him that he needs to see a doc asap so he won’t have to continue having these problems? Its really taking a toll on me also (the irritability and mood changes). Thanks for taking the time to read this. :]

My 3 year old son is doing one in a couple of days because I think he has sleep apnea. They want us there at 2:30 in the afternoon. What do they do between then and bedtime, just lay in the hospital bed? I am trying to determine how necessary this really is, as I reallly dont want him to have to undergo any surgeries later (they didnt work for his father). What was your experience? Thanks!
I was wondering if my lungs are more likly to get emphysema
I have sleep apnea that causes daytime drowsiness. I was suspended for this reason. My employer told another employee I was suspended for sleeping on the job. Does this violate Hippa since it is medically related?
My husband is having an Sleep Apnea Test, on wednesday….what do they do? how does it work? does he has to stay there overnight? will he come home the same day? he forgot to ask all this questions to his doctor, and now I’m worried. Thank You!
he’s appointment is at 3:00 pm I don’t get it why so early but they sent the reminder and is at 3, I dont think he will go to sleep at 3pm
my wife is on a C-PAP machine and 2 liters of O2 but she still stops breathing,i lisens to her breathing ever night, i don’t get much sleep. How is Sleep Apnea treated?
I assume she has had a sleep study done on her. if the doctor recommended c-pap or what I use bi-pap, doesn’t do the trick, you should ask if surgery is an option.
can’t have surgery? and she is due for her next sleep study.last one 3 years ago.
When I sleep at night I will grip things tightly, like a pillow for example. Sometimes it is to the point that my elbows and wrists hurt and I have had my fists closed so tight that I have nail imprints in the palms of my hands the next morning.
I was wondering for those that have this sleeping disorder what were you symptoms and experiences. Your input will be very helpful! Thank you!
its really humid and stuffy down in the south and i am allergic to molds and ragweed. well i also have noticed when my son falls asleep it is as he snores a bit then he stops for like 3 seconds and then he breathes again? can this be sleep apnea or something? sometimes he cries for a second or two then he goes to sleep. what do you think it is?
What are treatment options? I have a relative with it and he refuses to get medical help for it, because he doesn’t want the doctor to tell him to stop smoking.
Money is an issue and I dont have insurance. I’m also interested in anyone’s experiences in using manual vs. automatic machines. Thanks!
could all these symptoms be related?
I want to know what all it entails to get a sleep disorder diagnosis. I just don’t know if I could sleep being hooked up to a machine and if I gotta go to the bathroom, I’m not going to use a bed pan either!
Also, if you are being treated or have been, how much has it helped you? I’m so tired and sleepy all the time and am getting worse.
Thanks so much!
The other night my daughter’s breathing patterns were quit off when she was sleep. (Doc says that happens with infants) She sleep with the Angle care sensor under her mattress and it went off. I ran in her room and she seem real silent. I pushed on her back and her little hands moved. I am so freaked out. The Anglecare monitor sensor went off twice that night. Trying to figure out what happen……and what to do next. I talked with her doctor and she told me to keep a eye on her at night and that was it.
She is 7 weeks old
I think my son may have sleep apnea. He stops breathing sometime, just for a few seconds, and he gasps for air. My husband has sleep apnea and I know what it is like. I asked my son’s doctor about it and he said it might just be reflux and switched his formula. I would just like to know it anyone else has a child this small with sleep apnea and it this sounds like what might baby might be experiencing.
I can’t be woke up from a sound sleep and was tested for sleep apnea but it came back ok but need to know what I need to be tested for!
I have has insomnia ( dr. diagnosed) for the past 6 years and have always had trouble sleeping prior to that when I was younger. I can’t beleive that after going to a doctor ( and seeing other doctor’s) for the past 5 years or so that NONE of them has ever reccomended a sleep clinic/study! I read another post where someone stated that the medical community in in the dark about sleep health issues. A warm glass of milk or doing light excersize before bed ain’t going to cut it buddy. This a Real Health issue for millions of people and is not something "all in your head". That’s the ignorance most people have about Insomnia. And no, It’s not always about being stressed or wondering thoughts. Sure all of those things can lead to insomnia but in my case, even if all is well, there is still nights that it takes me 3 hours to fall asleep if at all. My question is: If i spend the money ( insurance wont cover it) to go to a sleep clinic, What types of things will the study show?
By the way, My Insomnia is not caused by sleep apnea or RLS. It’s simply Insomnia.
So maybe for the past month i have been forgetting to breath ALOT when i finally remember i am very out of breath. i tried searching for this and found something called sleep apnea, i was reading the symptoms and i have a few, so im wondering could i have sleep apnea AND regular apnea if there even is such a thing?
I guess what i need to ask is is there like a medical name for forgetting to breathe while awake?
My partner and I are disagreeing about the wording for our abstract. Would someone rewrite it using both or just give your opinion on which one i should use?

Over 20 million Americans suffer some degree of sleep apnea; those who do suffer from Sleep Apnea, are prone to suffer from excessive sleepiness, waking frequently throughout the night, morning headaches, and severe side effects on the heart and circulation. This project was designed to inform those suffering, or those who know someone suffering from Sleep Apnea.
Data was extracted from many reliable sources, along with a live interview. It was determined that sleep apnea is not widely known and often goes undiagnosed. The general population has probably already been exposed to Sleep Apnea without knowing it. There are few cases that have negative repercussions that may be life threatening, and require a doctor’s assistance.
The doctor revealed that there are many different treatments available for sleep apnea that can help to reduce, if not eliminate, the side effects. It is recommended that you should begin a healthy diet to help reduce Sleep Apnia, some healthy measure you can take are: Avoid alcohol and sedatives, some medications are designed to keep the patient breathing overnight. People with sleep apnea can also use a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask or a BIPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) mask to relieve the symptoms. In severe cases, surgery may be required to relieve the symptoms.
More people need to know about sleep apnea because it could be depriving them of sleep and contributing to high blood pressure and other circulatory problems. This could inspire people to go consult their doctor about their sleeping patterns and get treatment if it’s needed.

The doctor revealed that there are many different treatments available for sleep apnea that can help to reduce, if not eliminate, the side effects. It is recommended that people with sleep apnea should lose a reasonable amount of weight in healthy ways, avoid alcohol and sedatives, can use medication to stimulate the brain to keep the patient breathing throughout the entire night. My CPAP is not making the severe sleepiness go away. I get so sleepy I trip over things and am like being drunk. Yes-the sleep apnea was severe.
I have Aetna insurance and they have been giving me the run around in not being clear with me on how I get full benefit if I get a SnoreGuard sleep apnea device created. They have told me I will get 90% coverage if it is billed under medical. All dentists I go to only bill under dental which Aetna only gives a 50% coverage to me. I have yet to find a dentist or oral surgeon who bills under medical and I find myself at point A, after going to 2 separate dentists/oral surgeon in search of them creating this device for me. This is ridiculous. All I want is a Snoreguard for my sleep apnea. Use of the CPAP machine is nuts in my case.
I am 34, 145-150 lbs. 5’6" and diagnosed with a light case of Sleep Apnea in 2003. I’ve been on a CPAP machine now for about 9 mos. I am currently using the ResMed S8 Series C-PAP (pressure: 10) with a nasal pillow mask which seems to be working for me. I average 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but even after sleeping all night I still feel tired all day and find it hard to concentrate and listen. Almost daily, my appetite seems to lessen by dinner and I feel really drained. Sometimes It’s like feeling hungry and nausea at the same time (really weird). I’ve had tests done for thyroid, blood count, etc. which all came back normal. I can’t stay up late like I used to and I’m just really trying to get back my energy. I can’t remember the last time I actually woke up so refreshed that I was ready to go. I was just wondering if anyone else with apnea is experiencing these symptoms? If so, were you able to correct it? If not, perhaps this is some other problem yet to be diagnosed…?
How bad is that on a scale of those with sleep apnea.
His test results read he stops breathing 32 times every hour that’s about every two minutes…can you get any worse than that?
I just want to make sure he is telling me all that he needs to tell me.
He doesn’t use the machine. He has only been tested….nothing given to him yet.
The CPAP works when it stays on my head as I sleep, but it keeps coming off. I wouyld hope that someone out there is going through what you are going through and what are you doing to fix this problem.
