I have bipolar, although it’s mild I think. I frequently go back and forth between depressed and normal. I also have obstructive sleep apnea and have always had trouble sleeping. I’m having my tonsils out in 3 months to correct the problem. Will alleviating the apnea help stabilize my moods as well?

PILLAR PROCEDURE. MAY I HAVE YOUR COMMENTS ON YOUR EXPERIENCE? I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA AND I’M NOW ON THE CPAP TREATMENT WITH THE AUTOSET BY RESMED. A LIVE IN MEXICO CITY AND I AM PLANNING TO HAVE A CONSULTATION IN DALLAS. THANKS

How was the procedure, wasn't it too bothersome?

I went to a sleep study last night and they used some type of paste to stick the electrodes onto my face, neck, and legs. When they took them off this morning, there was goo all over me, even after she washed it off. What is the best way to remove the rest of this leftover goo off of me?

I can't remember the name of the sleeping disorder but the symptons are something like this.

Whilst still asleep, the patient 'wakes up' to discover that they are lying in bed unable to move and that someone or somebody is attempting to smother them. They eventually wake up properly.

Well I've had medical problems for 4 years now, and it all started with sleep issues. Only 3 things have been actually diagnosed so far, and those are: hypoglycemia, mild obstructive sleep apnea, and general insomnia (idiopathic, basically they don't know the cause).

The only solutions they've offered over the years are pills and a few tests… The tests showed sleep problems and low blood sugar but the other blood tests came back okay. The urinalysis had 4 flagged parts but the doctor didn't say anything about it… weird.

Addiction runs in my family so I'm very against pills for that reason, and because I don't like being dependent on any chemical. I took sleeping pills for a while but abused them, and abused benzo's for anxiety, and stopped both. Now I take Adderall for ADD symptoms and fatigue (even though I never had attention problems as a kid) but I feel like it's too strong and hope to get off it soon.

Anyways, the symptoms are:

-Headaches everyday, usually dull but sometimes throbbing
-Insomnia, waking up at night, sleeping in 10-14 hours if I don't set the alarm, extreme difficulty waking up
-Fatigue; without Adderall I can barely function let alone get out of bed
-Joint pain in every joint, hypermobile joints (I've torn ligaments before and can bend most things very disgustingly)
-Somewhat fragile bones, I've broken many things from mild accidents
-Blood on the tissue when I blow my nose, and it's been getting more frequent and more blood recently
-Difficulty concentrating (I know I'm not ADHD, it just seems that way from being so tired)
-Ear aches, hearing a whining noise all the time, constant ear infections, pretty bad hearing
-Chronic sinus infections (every time I go see the doctor) and one side of my nose has been stuffed for a long time
-Getting sick all the time… And I really mean it, my friends say "dude you're ALWAYS sick with something"
-Heart palpitations (even when I'm not taking adderall)
-Stomach pain, and pain in other parts of the abdomen sometimes
-Blood in my stool
-I always feel like I have to pee, even after going to the bathroom
-Anxiety… but I did a pretty good job of counseling myself through this during my clonazepam withdrawals

So I went to my general practitioner a couple weeks ago, told him most of this stuff – and all he did was clean out my ears and refer me to a pediatric orthopedist… he thinks it's strange that I have pains all over (especially my back) and hypermobility, as well as many breaks and fractures. He mentioned a few diseases that you have from birth but don't show up until later in life, but said not to worry about it until the appointment….

The thing is, that orthopedist can definitely help with the joint stuff but EVERYTHING else will go untreated. I don't know what kind of doctor has experience in multiple fields…… Bottom line is, I'm sick of being so sick. I want things to go back to normal, and be healthy. I eat normally, try to stay on a good sleep cycle, exercise daily, take vitamins, and do whatever I can yet it's not too effective.

I'd also like to know if any of these symptoms could be from one thing, or just multiple coincidental things.

Sorry for the extremely long question but… this has been getting to me.

Thanks.

Like if I quit drinking, ate healthy and exercised.. might I not have sleep apnea anymore?

If a person gets treated for sleep apnea, such as using a CPAP machine, will the mental deficiencies resolve or will they have permanent brain damage/memory loss?

I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea. I'm getting a study done next month, but all the symptoms are there. I'm scared it's going to cost me a ton to treat it. Does insurance cover CPAP machines? If so, how much usually? I have Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. I so desperately wish for a good night's sleep.
Sorry.. spelled dealt wrong.

I have just been diagnosed with it and will be getting my cpap today, just wondering if the cpap is loud and will keep my wife awake

Could stress cause sleep apnea or sleep apnea like symptoms? I have been stressed because of school and work etc and have never experienced anything like I did last night. I would be asleep and then stop breathing a couple seconds wake up, go back to sleep and the same thing would happen all throughout the night. My chest is definitely feeling it this morning because it is really sore.
I’m not even sure is one episode would even be considered “sleep apnea” What do you think? Any advice on what I should do. I mean I was reading about it and it said its mostly common amoung adults, i’m 19 years old. Could it just be stress? Should I have anythign to worry about?

I have been diagnosed with a deviated septum, and am undergoing surgery for it at the beginning of next year. I informed my doctor about these headaches I've been having in the morning. Well they're a little different from headaches, more like pressure above my eyes. I find the longer I sleep the worse they become. Also after sleeping about six hours I find it impossible to go back to bed without waking up at least every hour. I had a sleep test done, but according to that I didn't have sleep apnea. I'm wondering if the results could be wrong seeing as I was only able to sleep for about half an hour and they must not have been able to collect enough data. Could this pressure above my eyes be a sign of sleep apnea, or could they just be due to my deviated septum? I also find I don't really get overly sleepy in the day, however if I'm lying down and watching T.V or reading I will dose off.

I had a tape recorder running last night while I was sleeping to see if I snored & I did. Should I have been able to tell if i had sleep apnea with a recorder?

I am not even completely sure this is the proper title…
However, I would like to know the proper titles for people who study sleep disorders, including Doctors and I would like to know what sort of requirements are nec. for that.

Thanks!

Ok I went to sleep studies and got put on a CPAP machine although I think I isn't really warranted because my apnea was not that bad, number-wise. So I am on this machine for a while now and my mask id the one that goes into my nostrils because I have a beard and the one that covers the nose leaks air and wakes me up. Well Lately the mask I am wearing makes my nostrils feel like they are on fire when I breathe in and the only relief is to take it off. But in doing this my wife of course is woken up and has a bad nights sleep after that. Is there a solid solution to snoring that does not include a CPAP machine? I don't feel any more refreshed in the morning with or without the machine. I am not really over weight but when I was thinner I didn't snore as much. I just need solutions so I don't drive my wife crazy again with the snoring!

My husband has gained weight and sleeps on his back, would that have anything to do with the snoring?

Did you know that Sleep Apnea is a serious and deadly disease which affects many Americans who aren't even aware of it? The symptoms include snoring, daytime drowsiness/sleepiness, cessation of breathing during sleep, night sweats, morning headaches, loss of concentration and many others. I have lost two friends in the past two years to Sleep Apnea. Both were diagnosed and refused to use their CPAP machines. I was diagnosed in 2000 and use a CPAP every time I sleep.

Does taking naps make you sleep apnea worse or better> ??
My husband has sleep apnea, mild to high condition. 28 years old, smoker, 20 lbs over weight, no significant excersize daily.
What are some ways to help ruduce his tiredness, and also improve his condition??

I've been officially diagnosed with sleep apnea in the mild to moderate range. I also suffer from depression (probably sleep deprivation induced) and insomnia (late to bed/early to rise). I sleep for between 3 to 5 hours a night. Obviously this isn't enough sleep.

I've tried CPAP, but can't get used to it, mainly due to my problems with insomnia (my mind has trouble being "quiet"). I have a hard time sleeping without the distraction of a CPAP, and WITH it…. it's impossible for me to sleep. I litterally just DON'T SLEEP with it on. I've been trying for 2 months (seriously).

I know there are dental devices that relocate your jaw and tounge, but I seem to have problems mainly with my "soft palette". I notice that if I breath through my mouth, it's impossible for it to close off. SO, I was wondering if anyone uses or knows of a dental device that would have holes in it to allow you to breath through your mouth at night? Something like a mouth guard with a tube coming out… THANKS!

I am a 14 year old male, I very recently have been prescribed (and have been taking) Syroquel (mood stabilizer), Depakote (mood stabilizer), and Adderall (ADHD medication).

I have a sleep study coming up on May 30th.

When it was scheduled I was not on any medication.

Since the medication interferes with the brain, is it possible they will not accept me because I am on medication?

My machine is set to "20".I take it off in my sleep an hour or two into sleeping..and dont remember it.Also, does it effect your stomach?
